New receiver or govenor?

Hi all

As a lot has been said lately on fail safes, it got me thinking about my setup.

I have PPM and no govenor so hence, no fail safe.

I want to achieve a certain level of 'scale' flying ie. approaches, flares etc but not the machine straining 3D.

With that in mind my question is in order to achieve my safety 'fail safe' would you advise a PCM receiver or a Revlock?

The Revlock apeals on price but do I require this on a scale setup when the PCM would suffice?

Currently flying a Shuttle with no scale body work at present.

The revlock failsafe can only work on the throttle. If this is ok with you , then its a good start. Its a good piece of kit anyhow and I would recommend a governor, failsafe or not. I fitted one mid way through my start of learning and never looked back.

A PCM receiver gives you failsafe on all channels, which is probably a better option all things considered. As mentioned in other threads its all about safety, and this is the 'safest' option.
Against PCM is the Rxs ability to 'hide' glitches. This is felt to be a bad thing, but to be honest, at the point when a PCM receiver locks out, a PPM one would be unflyable generally.
I try and set the model up to be reliable with a PPM receiver then switch to a PCM one when its all bedded in.

My recommendation - get a governor and a PCM receiver....

The Revlock is certainly an attractive upgrade over the PCM in terms of price.

for scale flying there really is no need for a rev lock. get the PCM just makes more sense from a safety POV.

Having said that, if you are using an iffy muffler then you may find the engine wont come on song and stay on song reliably at which point you end up using hov throttle adjustments.

but in that situation your better to get a decent muffler than get a rev-lock.

I dont know if you use JR or Futaba but JR do some very modestly priced SPCM receivers now,not much different than a Revlock

I use Futaba FF7 and on balance it looks as though the PCM receiver is the way to go.
