A few weeks ago my DX7 started feeling very strange just under mid stick on the cyclics. Upon investigation i found that one of the pins that are used for centring the gimbal had become loose in the platic due to the plastic of the gimbal fracturing. as a very short term measure i ca'd it back in and all was good again for a while, but it meant realistically i had to replace it. It was a choice for me between the DX7SE or the JR DSX9.
The final choice was made purely on price. I wanted a DSX9 but the new price made it totally prohibitive. Anyway my reasoning for the SE over the standard was that i can keep the original for the sim, so the lack of trainer port is not a biggy for me, and i was curious as to wether or not i could feel the difference from the increased resolution and lower frame rate. I bought a spektrum AR7100 rx (to take advantage of these features) and put it in my knight. Setup was simple, no different to the original DX7 and AR7000. I managed one flight on it today (before dumb thumbing it!) and instantly i could feel a difference. It felt incredibly sharp, especially noticable in sharp stops. Tic tocs were much tidier, th eonly way to describe it is feeling like i am literally connected to the machine. Its definatley not a placebo effect as my other models still have the original receivers in and felt absolutely no different.
Is it worth it? as a replacement for an old or damaged tx yes. for a competition pilot probably yes (im not one of these by the way!). as a replacement for a perfectly good DX7, probably not. Ill update more once i know what im doing with my broken Knight
