For the record I fitted NiMH 2100 AA batteries and never had a problem with my DX6i which is still going fine over a year later.

Nothing wrong with the Futaba though.

    Cheers

My advice is try to have a hold and a little play with all the radio sets your interested in. Whichever one feels the best and seems the best usually is the best - for you.

I fly Futaba but the DX7 is excellent too.

I strongly recommend going for an FF7 2.4GHz - SO much better than the 6EX and not that much more expensive. Subtrims, triple rates, a timer, and a governor option (if you do go Nitro) as well as it means you'll be able to use all the channels on that receiver

Basically I'd say choose between the DX7 and the FF7 as Pete says. I would suggest staying away from the DX6i and 6EX so you won't need to upgrade later.

        T-Rex 450 SE V2 (Hitec HS65MGs, GY401 + Robbe FS 61 BB)
        T-Rex 150 (Stock)
        Futaba 14SG + FF7 2.4GHz, Mode 3

I hear you on the DX7 / FF7 thing but to get me in the air the T6EX will do the job. If I get s/h gear from here (reasonably trusted source) then I can sell it on without too much loss and then upgrade if I need to.

By the time that comes round the next greatest thing will be on the market and there will be loads of DX7 and FF7 available just like the DX6i and T6EX are now.

I do kind of follow the 'buy once buy right' philosophy but sometimes there just isn't enough money to do that..

          cheers

I doubt it. Not many upgrade from those, unless they really go higher, but they are the few.

If you definitely want to stick with 6 channel then definitely choose the 6EX over the DX6i. I flew my 450 and 600N on one for nearly a year with zero problems (was waiting for the FF7 2.4 to come out).

It's really easy to use, my only gripe was it had no timer. It also meant I couldn't control my governor from the TX, but it wasn't a big problem.

Make sure the 6EX is a fairly new one -- earlier sets had a problem where they could lose their unique code. Ripmax replaced ALL of them for brand new units last year. I think "good" ones have an "I" sticker underneath. I still have my unused 6EX from when mine was replaced (had the FF7 by then) -- if anyone wants it make me a good offer )
