  • Futaba or Spektrum

Simple question Spektrum DX6i with AR6200 or Futaba T6EX AND R617FS

can get a DX6i + AR6200 from Fast Lads for £100, assuming no price increase when they re-stock or there's a Futaba set for sale on here for £100 with one or two extra bits.

Will be going into a Trex 500 using an LT2100 gyro, Hitec HS82mgs and a DS520 on the tail.

    any input welcome.

Personally if I was doing my planning all over again I would choose the DX7 and AR6200.....sorry!

            I agree with that.
But i must mention that I hated using the DX6i, horrible design, bad plastic, faulty switches. Scroller was novel, but annoyed me very quickly as i always overshot the setting i wanted.

So ignoring the personal preference side of things

are they equally as technically capable as each other ???

both have solid RF links between TX and RX ??

what about battery life?? the DX6i uses AAs and the T6EX comes with a rechargable nicad..

                Go 7channel get a DX7 or 7cap 2.4ghz

Buy the right tranny now and never look back.....

forget the 6 channel ones and why have a DX6 without a rechargable battery makes no sense change the batteries every what 10 flights or so...

for robustness it has to be the 6ex ... and futaba make Rx's that last ... other side if spekky have cheaper rx's and more of them .. but it looks like futaba are bringing out some more soon ... As i have a 7 channel Rx in a plane that could be better suited with a 4 channel lol....Another thing to note .. some clubs wont let you use a Tx that uses seperate cells in a Tx so in this futaba win ...

With the Trex 500 I've bought I think it will be a while before I am upgrading and so as long as I only fly electric then 6ch is enough, unless I start doing scale with retracts etc etc..

and the T6EX for sale on here comes with the 617 RX which is 7 ch so I would only need to upgrade the TX if it ever came to it anyway..

                    thanks for you input gents..

I've got the T6EX & for the T500, it serves it purpose spot on. Once you get used to it, it really is a simple to operate & up for the job tranny. It even does for my T600n - at the moment

If you are definitely NEVER EVER EVER going to buy a nitro and run a govnor (which most people do with nitro) then a 6 channel is fine. Eitehr TX will work fine but my preference would be for the DX6i

If you are not sure then I agree with the earlier advice and get a 7 ch now.

well no one has talked me out of the Futaba yet.

I've just read the 'any problems with FASST' thread and all seems good and someone mentioned that the T500 static problem has not been reported on Futaba gear yet either..

After what happened to cambs flyer and co I wouldn't trust the DX6i without first ripping out the crap battery compartment and replacing it with a welded pack. As stated some clubs have banned it because it uses push in dry cells.

                              No reason why they should.

Futaba gear is just fine. The 7C is what you need.
