a cable tie or the xtal tied around with string is better than tape
or use tape and one of the above
its not the first time i've heard of jr xtals falling out (futaba and the others can fall out as well)
the last one i saw was a turbined scale machine that set on fire when it crashed

Saw one fall out of a Raptor 50, it turned right, made straight for the car park, bounced off the roof of a Land Rover and wrecked itself in the carpark.

We make fun of it now, but at the time it was pretty scarey

Was at the field today just after a chap's crystal fell out of his Raptor 50 - he was pretty gutted about it as it had only just been repaired....
Maybe more common than you think....

Im not supprised that this is quite common.

When I was racing RC cars people would have the crystal fall out when crashing or landing off a jump.

All RC flyers should be fixing there crystal in somehow.

I used to tape mine in with a thin bit of duck tape, as it was very sticky. This is a pain if you have to change crystals often.

I suppose this is another advantage of 2.4ghz.

Sounds like a lucky escape there Chris.
Sorry to hear of your misfortune but it could have been much worse.
Must have scared the life out of you?
I had a blonde moment way back when I was flying gliders on 35Mhz.
We were on the slopes and a peg board wasn't present. Someone asked if anyone was on channel '72'.
"Hang on, I'll check" I said and promptly pulled the crystal out of my Tx whilst the machine was in the air.
It took 3 seconds for me to realise my mistake and 2 seconds for the glider to dig a 12inch hole in the dirt!
            Feel for you buddy.

Thats what RX strong boxes were made for.... your crystal is contained nicely behind a lid with four screws on....

Find it amazing that a machine that basically shakes itselfs to bits and people do not tape or make sure the crystals cannot fall out....

Even in planes my crystals had tape over them to hold them in no matter what...

Another reason for 2.4ghz then no crystals to fall out
