  • Dumb question about pitch/throttle curves!

    Hi all,

If You've read my previous threads, You'll be aware I'm the new proud owner of a Century swift.
I purchased the the Hi-tec optic 6 radio yesterday, and with bleary eye and heavy heart finally got my head around the ccpm set up in the early hours of this morn!!

I just have no idea about pitch/throttle curves and what to set them to for normal flight.
I purposely havent got the motor or esc yet, I'm being unusually self disciplined and want to have a couple of weeks of getting to know the radio inside out first, rather than risk injury or damage and rushing things.
I've read about esc's having governor modes, and that this mode can take care of the throttle and pitch curves?? But surely there should still be a transmitter base setting for this to work from??? Or will the instructions for this come with the Esc?

I've already set the heli up mechanically to the measurements that Disc kindly gave me.

Sorry to sound stupid guys, and some of you are probably shaking your heads and thinking 'Here comes another one!!!' I just have no experience with electric seperates!!
    My Twister CPV2 had a 4-In-1 and was pre-set.

Any offerings will be as usual very much appreciated.

    Regards,

    Gazza
    Cheers,

    Gazza

Hi if you get a castle creations esc all you need to do is set the curve to the speed you want the head at, so for example in Idle up you will set the curve to 50% all the way, On the Hitec Optic there is 5 pitch and throttle curve points, you will just leave the pitch as liner and set the throttle to 50% at all points on the curve i.e. 1. 50% 2.50% 3. 50% 4. 50% 5. 50% on the throttle. For normal mode you should set it like this, 1. 0% 2. 20% 3. 50% 4. 50% 5. 50%.

But the percentages I have given you are just a guide so start with a small %age and work your way up until you get the head speed you want.
    How low can you go

      Nightlore,

Thanks very much for the info.
I will be getting the Castle creation esc as it happens.

I managed to get the servos and mechanical pitch set up sorted out in the end, annoyingly it took a lot of messing around as the Swift instructions dont mention anything about the fact you have to set these with the throttle in the mid stick position for normal mode! I thought that only applied to 3D...
Took a bit of internet searching to sort it.

But then, as you've gathered I'm no expert.

      many thanks,

      Gazza

I'd avoid Castle Creations on helis, some use them with no hassle and sware by them, others - like me - had nothing but problems with them, not sure what you need for a Swift but go for somthing like a Quark or if you're feeling flush a Kontronik, I've been using a Kontronik for 6 months with not one glitch.

Thanks bud I'll bear that in mind!
What should I go for amp wise? 60 or 80?

Slightly off topic, I finally got my CCPM set up sorted and it's finally starting to make some sort of sense.
I've never set CCPM up before so its been a steep learning curve!!
Now its all set up mechanically it gives (Approximately) as I'm gonna get a pitch gauge tomorrow) plus and minus 10 degrees on the blades at top and bottom of swash travel, and 5 degrees midstick in normal and 3D modes on my optic 6 tranny.

Do I now just adjust the pitch curves in normal mode to suit my style? Say around -2 degrees bottom stick, 5 or 6 degrees hover, and say 9 or ten full stick? And keep the 3D pitch curves as they are over the five points and just raise all the throttle curve to give a constant throttle throughout the range?

Please say yes!! I've spent all day tryin to suss this out!!

          Regards,

It depends on th emotor you get, more powerful motor = bigger ESC, they start at 45a for a Swift - buy the best you can afford as you are bound to want more power at some point.

As for your curves, I dare not answer in case I confuse things
