  • Spektrum DX7-SE v JR DSX9

Can anyone tell me why the new Spektrum DX7-SE running at 2048 resolution cannot run Phoenix Flight sim......

But the JR DSX9 running the same 2048 resolution can.

because they have overclocked the cpu on the dx7se, so the timing for the stream is out of sync.

2048 has nothing to do with it.

    cheers

I'm guessing that the lack of the trainer socket is a consequence of the overclocking ? (they simply could not find a workaround)

I truly believe that Spektrum have missed the boat by not working out how to add a trainer socket.
I think it will be a deciding factor for a lot of people and their sales of this unit will be impacted because of it.

even if i needed the extra resolution (which i don't at this point in time)
theres no way i would buy a DX7se for that reason alone.

Mmmm, Still learning here Paul but I thought it was to do with resolution hence my post.

        Another lesson learned today.

Ah I'd read up on that if I was you

Futaba 12FG does the sim thing by reverting to its output to Trainer mode PPM

I wonder if the JR set does something similar

Good point Mark and if true why couldnt Spektrum have enabled a similar device on the SE.

Does seem very strange after all for the most part Spektrum has the charge on 2.4ghz and seems strange how they'd leave such a feature out...

SE for pro pilots... Even Pro's use sims....

i have read exactly why it can't do it but i have taken the liberty of paraphrasing it above.

maybe in the future a buddy port can be added but the radio is aimed at people who will likely not need it. if you need a buddy then you won't need the extra performance of this i guess is what they figure.

                cheers

Not needing a buddy lead is one thing, but not being able to use the sim is another.
That said, if you're looking for the performance gains from the SE, you might well have another Tx lying around that will do the job on the sim...?

You remember back in the 386 and 486 days of computers where some PCs had a "turbo" button which would switch it between 33 and 66 MHz (wow, feel the power!)
They could have used a similar idea here, so that the default "turbo" is on (overclocking the CPU) and when a buddy lead is plugged in, it turns the turbo off

Just a thought, they probably had the same and thought "don't be daft"
                  LOL
                  Cheers,

i can understand advanced pilots not needing to buddy to learn .
but it means that they cannot teach beginners either and that sucks

Most likely the DX7SE is a badge and a firmware upgrade (and a price upgrade) with absolutely no hardware change.
Whos going to reverse engineer it and give us some pirate DX7SE's via torrents?
