I'm thinking about changing to this radio but was wondering if the receiver I will get can be used without using the onboard regulator, as the 7 channel receivers seem to have a reg fitted!? My set up has the fromeco arizona reg and I think its a cracking bit of kit and don't want to lose it if possible. I currently use the JR2720 35mhz synth which is basically the same tranny but without the 2.4ghz capabilities.

It's only the 7100 and 7100R receivers plus the 9100 (I think) that come with built in regulators, the 6100, 6200, 7000 & 9000 will run perfectly well with the Arizona regulator.

i read that only the 7100 series and 9100 series take advantage of the speed difference of the se version. Is this true...

I am in the process of swapping to the DX7se and having to move from AR7000 receivers as they are only capable of 1024. I didn`t want to bother with the AR7100 due to the reg etc. so double checked with horizon and the AR9000 are capable of 2048 so take advantage of the DX7SE's extra speed. The only difference between the AR7000 and the AR9000 is there are 2 extra AUX slots and of course the 2048 compatibility.

Compatibility
The DX7se is compatible with all of Spektrum’s DSM2 receivers but the extra performance will only be realised if it is used with the following: AR7100, AR7100R, AR9000, AR9100.
