  • Dx6i Trims Design Fault

I've had my DX6i for two months and the rudder trim now only works in one direction.

I think a few members on here have had the same problem. If i recall correctly, Boggy's trim went, contacted Horizion and a new one arrived in the post the next day before he had even returned the old one!

Ok, not the ideal situation, but at least Horizion understand and rectify the problem immediatly. Give them a call first thing tomrrow and you should have it resolved very quickly mate

yes mine did go! horizon sent me a new pcb board and hobby hanger replaced the rockers, no problem. then the elev trim went so i had a fiddle. the fix is quite easy use slightly bigger screws to hold the pcb/switch assembley and fit two thin fibre washers underneath it to space it out slightly no problems since

Hope you are right. That's not my understanding. I thought it was a fatigue problem caused by the rockers not being strong enough. I suppose that if you space the board out with washers that it will reduce the stress on the plastic and keep it going a bit longer. On Rcgroups the fix is to strengthen the rockers with epoxy. I like the Dx6i a lot and I think it's sad that they should get such a small detail wrong. I'd be quite happy to buy upgraded rockers. Is the Dx7 ok?

How thick are the fibre washers ? Do you know where new rockers can be bought. I don't want to lose trim again. Perhaps your trims are ok since you bought the new gyro.

Hi cjcj1949 I had my rudder trim go as well, twice no less. Horizon UK are exceptional though and will send you the part in the post I expect. They've sent me 2 of those and a roller for another DX6i that went on me. Touch wood so far it's not gone since.

i didnt measure them ! but at a guess about 1.5mm . ive put them on all four trim tabs not just rudder and as i say had no problem since.

if you ring horizon i would be very surprised if they didn't put you some new tabs in the post the same day. their aftersales service is excellent.

I've been promised a new tx by Dave at Inwood models. I'm sure that pushing the trim switch too hard does it no good. I can see now exactly where the failure happens on the rocker. It looks very flimsy. I think you can tell if your trims are about to fail by checking to see if the lever on the front of the transmitter is central, as one arm of the rocker getting weaker will cause it to sit off centre. The dx6i is still a very good tx.

Horizon are sending the parts. I think I'll get a DX7 as well. Unless there are any other suggestions? Where's the best place?

I'll be able to give people flights on the mcx. Is the buddy box lead just a crossover? Where did you get the fibre washers Boggy?

Four new trim assemblies recieved this morning. Horizon Hobby in the uk are very good. I've repaired the broken one with hard plastic glue and it's now on the throttle channel. Thanks to John.

The lead is a standard mono 3.5mm jack to jack. The ouputs and inputs are on the same single pin. There is no crossover. I have used the DX6i as master and the DX7 as pupil, with the DX7 training mode set to normal.

Try your local PC shop for fibre washers! Not PC world, but a place that builds PC's from scratch... Often the fibre washers are used when mounting motherboards to cases!

My dremel didn't come with any washers at all, discs just mount straight on the "bit"...
