Do they need a special RX?

Or if I brought one would I be able to user my 35mhz rx's and would I be able to add a 2.4gb module in the future?

Hi

Yes you can use most aftermarket PPM receivers and all Futaba ones, you can then add/remove the Futaba 2.4G Fasst module when ever you want to in seconds, you can use the Spektrum module but this would take slightly longer to switch back to 35Mhz from.

Cool I am looking for a new Tx as mine is bust and I cant afford to replace 4 rx's for 2.4gb now and I dont want to restrict my self to 6 or 7 channels as it seems like you need more and more now for a nitro heli's with governers, carbstarts and remote glows etc...

So a second hand T9CP seems the best option?

Have to look at the latency of a FF9 to other Tx's ... alot slower than n e of the equivelents on the market... Just my 2penneth ... still nice radios tho ..

As a newbie, looking to get a better radio now and expand to more models in the future, the above information sounds useful, but I got lost in the detail. Are you saying that if I bought a Futaba FF7 + rx now, I could put the new rx in the new model (TREX 500, I expect) but can still somehow use the new radio to command the older model fitted with a 35MHz rx? If so, cool! But how - using words of one syllable for the hard-of-thinking!

you need the same crystal in both the RX and the TX ... and then set the FF7 to that model in the menus ... Personally I would go the FF7 2.4ghz route and change the RX in the older model .. but thats just me lol ....But yes Si .. you can use the newer radio with the older Rx as long as its ppm mode as I know theres some issues with certain Tx's and Rx's

I am just thinking of future proofing.

I was going to get a FF7 2.4gb combo I haven't got the funds to buy at the mo let alone the rx's for the rest of the planks and I hope to replace the now sold raptor soon.
I have been looking at an a second hand ff9 to save costs as it can be upgraded to 2.4gb at a later date.

Look at the charts for PCM in eCCPM Mode. This is the mode you would have selected for say your T-Rex 450 if it were equipt with a Futaba PCM receiver. The slowness that people are talking about is the time it takes for the channel 6 servo to start to move, latency, after the stick has been moved on the tx.

If you are using a third party or PPM or a 2.4GHz rx then look at the PPM and eCCPM chart. I don't know what the final table, PPM and Normal (Channel 6), is showing but this puts the T9 in a better light.

From the charts if you are after the fastest radio to fly your eCCPm helicopter then get a Futaba 10C with the 14 channel 2.4GHz rx

Nick was asking about the FF9 radio which does have a plug in module in the back which allows it to be quickly changed from one frequency band to another, the FF7 doesn't have this is stuck on the frequency band you buy it on.
So if you buy a FF7 on 2.4G it can only operate on 2.4G and a 35Mhz one can only operate on 35Mhz.

NICK i have a t7c (ff7) on 35mhz i can sell you if yer interested. Its as new and if you use decent receivers ie pcm dual conversion, there should (i say should very loosely) be no interference issues and no need for 2.4ghz. Pm me if your interested.

Comes with 2200 mah battery too but no charger or instructions sorry lost them ages ago. Used to use this before i got my dx7 and tbh the only reason i changed is cos i was offeredthe dx7 for silly money. I used this tranny on my k3d on sunday and it worked fantastically except i could only find a ppm single conv receiver and i had a slight glitch at the field down to outside interference

I have a Futaba Super 8 that is on 35 at this time but can be converted to 2.4 by swapping the module. It just plugs into the back in place of the 35 module
