  • Futaba or Spektrum

I had my Trex 450 go in nose first on friday - feathering spindle & tail belt on so not too bad.

It glitched (35mhz)(PCM) and I couldn't save it, but whilst flying my Swift that too glitched in almost the same place as the Trex but I managed to get that down ok. Now I'm wondering, coincidence or not?. Some thing in the field there?

Anyway, I have a Futaba Super 8 I bought as a buddy box & that has a replacement module that runs 2.4 if I want to go that route. Only thing is the older programming method.

Either I do that or go for a new FF7 2.4 as that would be the same as my 35mhz FF7 and I don't really want to learn a new programming menu.

Or, hell, go for Spektrum / JR?

    Super 8 module + 1 Rx, say £150
    Futaba FF7, say £225
    Spektrum - £230
    JR - £550

    What would you do?

    Cheers

    David

Leeds Model Shop did me a deal on a FF7 tr only for about £124. Might be worth a call?

Yip it was me that sold you the 8U super. I thing about the Spektrum gear is the Receivers are much cheaper than the futaba ones for a start. You wont go wrong with the DX7 mate its a very good TX. I dare say the FF7 2.4 is too but i lost my confidence with Futaba 2.4 stuff a while back. My DX7 has been probably the best buy (apart from Phoenix RC) out of all my kit mate.

Just ordered a DX7 Combo. No servos.

Futaba radios are way to difficult to setup, you actually have to read the manual whereas with spektrum you can just follow your nose.

Futaba, else you'll be forever sending receivers back to Horizon to get aerials replaced and updates - I have also experienced problems with power loss (fail safe type) and brown outs on JR/Spektrum that I've not had with Futaba
                      Clones are bad

                      .... that includes Align ones

Had futaba 2.4 for a while and can say its the best thing I ever bought .. model feels alot more locked in and no shoot downs or lock outs for me either ... As for menus ... they are easy to make your way round ... the whole jr/spekky vs futaba is like most things in life .. .its your decision at the end of the day ... If you already own futaba 35 and go 2.4 then its easy as pie to sort ...

Hhhhhmmm.............just been thinking. May have to ring Revolution Models tomorrow & change from Spektrum to Futaba.

All I would have to do is copy all the settings from my FF7 to the FF7 2.4. I know the menus so I would not have to learn it all over again. Have to say that I have been OK with the Futaba stuff I have bought over the last couple of years.

I'll talk to them in the morning. Easy it ain't!!!!

                          Thanks all for the advice.

I agree about the JR v Futaba.
I got a Sektrum DX7 after having a Futaba T7C (which I thought was the mutts nuts) and I think the same thing. The models feel much more locked in. I haven't had any of the static or brown out issues but I have taken some precautions (but only on the T-Rex 500). Now that I've gone Spektrum, I'll be staying put
                            Cheers, Lee.

Thats all i did was copy the settings from one to the other and then test flew each one just to fine tune the models a little more in the air .... If you already know the menus its a breeze ... plus with the new FF7 ya got GOV mode and some more bits that the 35meg version aint got ....
