Which is the better system. Spektrum or Futaba Fasst and why?

    Cheers.

  • #2
Personally I dont think one is better than the other.
The reason I went with Futaba is I always have had them and was worried that I would get muddled as the Idle up switch and hold switch were the other way around.
Also I am a mode 1 flier and the Futaba,s can be swapped around if needed.
Personal preference is what its all about.

Well I beleive that the guy who developed the 2.4Ghz technology for this use licensced it to Spectrum and everyone else started after.

So on that basis I got a DX7 like most people.

I fly futaba cos I know it and it has some great features. However, much more people use spectrum which is great for help and buddy leading. One other thing which is annoying with futaba is you don't get the model match facility. This means much more care is required when you have more than one model. Ask me how I know!! Both good systems though. Can't go wrong with either.

Sort of a Mac v Windows question as it's personal preference - Most fly Spektrum because they were first on the market and we desperately needed 2.4 to stop the electric helis glitching so everyone rushed out and bought a DX7, a great radio and cheap too.

I converted form a JR9X to a DX7 then to a DSX9 2.4 as I love JR transmitters, but after 18 months of the receivers falling to bits and having to send something back to Horizon every 5 minutes I binned it and went out and bought a Futaba for the first time and much prefer it.

No more care than we have been taking for the last 50 years firstly on 27MHz and then on 35MHz.

The greater benifit of 2.4 is you wont shoot someone down when you turn on your tx.

What is the main difference between the Spektrum system and Futaba's FASST system?
The Spektrum systems utilize what is known as Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum modulation, or DSSS. Using this methodology, the system selects a channel, or channels, and remains on this frequency indefinitely. Futaba's almost 15 years of experience with spread spectrum technology has proven that the ideal situation for modelers is to utilize channel shifting whereby the system continuously changes frequencies every two milliseconds thus preventing signal conflicts and eliminating interference issues.

Found the above on the FASST FAQ section on the Futaba website. I agree that it would be nice if Futaba as the model match function though.

I was thinking of moving over to 2.4 sometime soon and being as I'm currently building a T-Rex 500, thought now may be a good time.

I currently use a Futaba 7c and I guess I'm used to that of a fashion.

What would be the best receiver to use in the 500 if I did move over.

                  Futaba do a 7 channel 2.4 tranny:-

and a 6 channel 2.4 receiver would be fine for your 500 (Futaba R606FS)

You could say that!! Can't wait for the 250 to come out. Thinking of selling my Pro though as I'm not going to fly it very much now I've got my 700 and 600NSP.

Did you see the post from my mate this week about the RJX X90? If you've got plenty of time have a look:-

True, but since the technology exists then why not use it? It's a nice to have that I would like to see futaba adopt.

spektrum has a memory for the settings of each model you own . if you select the wrong model it will not operate the heli/plane you are trying to use. unlike futaba's faast system that will operate any model you have bound to it( so if the settings are wrong .... disaster!!!!!).
