  • Spektrum DX7 - with servos or without?

I am looking to buy a DX7 to replace my Sanwa radio (which is frankly a pile of poo) and will be replacing the servos at the same time as they are a little sluggish.

Are the Spektrum Servos sufficient for a Raptor 30?
I have a Futaba digital servo for the tail and will leave that in place.

Prices are similar between with and without servos.
Where is the best place to buy in the UK at present?

the spekky servos will serve you well in a 30!! fast precise and strong. Although there are stark warnings not to use them in a 50 i do and they work well!! never any problems never even stripped a gear in a crash which is rare for plastic geared servos. My tuppence replace the standard servos in yer rappy for the spekky one and get a nicer flying heli to boot

I swear buy JR, in all my planks and my Ex Rappy (the tail servo that gave out was hitec).
Spektrum is basically JR isnt it so it gets a thumbs up from me

I personally went for a DX7 without servos. I then got some Futaba 3152s. Worked very well in my Raptor and now in the Knight Sport

Inwood Models were doing the DX7 on it's own for £139.00 IIRC.
They are doing 3152s for £16.

        Great prices IMHO

Whilst I think the problem from memory with the Spectrum servos was people putting loctite in a plastic fitting for the screws, I would go with Lee's suggestion.

I got my DX7 from Inwood's, good service

if you swear by jr ill bring your attention to the fact the spectrum ds821 are rebadged jr ds 811's but 3152's are better as iirc they are metal geared and likely to last longer

Excellent - thanks guys, will check out Inwoods and Futaba Servos

Will the receiver servo plugs need to be changed? (or is it just Sanwa that does not seem to be compatible with anything?)

                  3152's are NOT metal geared

You'll need a Spektrum receiver (AR7000 for an IC heli is fine or AR6200 if you're not worried about running a govenor on another heli in the future). Give Inwoods a call to see what a combo price is as I got my DX7 with a 7 channel receiver together.
                      Cheers, Lee.

                        My benchmark is £229 includes DX7, AR7000, 4 x DS821 Servo's and a UK charger.

Will call Inwoods to see what price they can offer but does anyone know of a better deal so far?

The DX7 inc UK charger and AR7000 was £189 about this time nlast year so you should be just below or on budget with that and 3 qty 3152s for your Rappy
I had a Futaba 3003 servo from my bits box on the throttle.

Another place to try is Leeds Model Shop (online: www.modelshopleeds.co.uk)

If you need 4 servos for your helicopter then get 4 x 3152s, as Inwoods then does them for £15.00 each instead of £16..

You might find it hard to get a DX7 w/o an Rx (should you want to.) LHS phoned up HH UK for a price on Friday, and they currently have none (ie no Tx on own).

Another package that might be of interest is this one: http://www.fast-lad.co.uk/store/dsm2...de-p-3205.html DX7 DSM2 7Ch MicroLite Radio With 3 X JR DS285 Mode 2. Rx is an AR6100. ie 6 channel, no remote receiver, but small and light.

I also discovered that it's not hard to get LHS to match a mail order price when delivery charge is taken into account.
