  • DX7 gyro setup

    I have a DX7
My question is if i were to change from adjusting gain in travel adjust to using the gyro menu, would the values in the gyro menu overide the values in travel adjust. ie. If i had say 40 in HH and 90 in rate mode on the gyro menu, and say 90 and 90 in travel adjust, which will the gyro look at? Should i put the travel adjust to 100 100 if using gyro menu?

It shouldn't matter because when you tell the Tx to use the gyro menu instead of ATVs for gyro gain (in the first Tx setup menu, not the main menus), the Tx should then ignore the ATV settings on what is currently your gyro gain channel.

This is testable if you have a gyro that shows you the gain value it is currently being told to receive, such as a 601 or 611. I haven't tested it though...

Or the Tx 'monitor' display ?

What advantage does using the gyro menu give you ? (I've not played with this - yet...)

The Tx monitor display will show you what value is being sent to the gyro, but that doesn't necessarily correspond to the value being seen at the gyro.
See a GY601 or 611 for further details

I don't think there is any benefit, I guess it's possibly just easier for some people to get to grips with?

          I have neither...

I read somewhere that there's no standard as to exactly how servos, gyros, etc interpret the values the Rx sends them. eg different kit takes different values as 'zero'.

Allowing for this, I'd expect the monitor value to be some help. eg you can telll if a travel limt is havin an effect.

I had a look at the manual. It seems (amongst other stuff) the gyro menu lets you have the flght modes set the gyro gain.

Aside from being convenient, because each flight mode has its own trim settings, this would allow one flight mode to have heading hold mode (with zero rudder trim), and another to have rate mode with a small amoun to frudder trim if required.

This sounded really useful - except it seems the gyro has to be on AUX2 (rather than GEAR or AUX1), so is no use for 6 channel receivers.

Seems like this is an advantage for the DX6i, as you can use its gyro functions with a 6 channel Rx.

Looking at the manual some more, it seems the Input Select (p 73 & 74) allows the GEAR channel to be used for the gyro sensitivity, through the gyro menu (p 91).

right obviously in atv mode the settings are 0 - 100% + or - now in gyro mode 50% is zero anything above 50% is hh and anything below 50% is rate. and you jump in 2% increments instead of 1

I had a quick play with my DX7 (before I read this), and, as you say, 0-100% in the gyro menu corresponds to (-100%) to (+100%) in the monitor display.

However, when using the GEAR switch to drive the gyro channel, the travel adjust lets you go -150 to +150 in the monitor display.

Since I currently have a gyro at 130% as its gain in HH mode, I want this.

Gyro menu doesn't go <0 or >100; and both travel adjust and sub-trim have no effect on the output. Seems limited to +/- 100% - unfortunately.

I wonder if I'm unusual in wanting to switch between rate & HH modes.
