Spektrum Rx & Static Discharge

Anyone had problems with a Spektrum Rx that's been tracked down to static discharges caused by the tail rotor drive-belt (or such)?

If so:

What were the symptoms ? [esp Rx LEDs]

What fixed it ?

yes i had problems with static on my 450 this was caused between the drive belt gear and main gear completely cured this using graphit greese on the main gear the symptoms were brown outs

Was that with the AR6200 that came with your DX6i ?

If so, do you know what the LEDs on the main Rx and remote Rx were doing afterwards ?

[On mine, main Rx LED is flashing, sometimes erratically; remote Rx LED is on solid. A power brown-out should leave both LEDs flashing.]

Your AR6200 will (most likely) have the QuickConnect microcode. Both LEDs flashing is what you'll see if it's lost power and performed a quick reconnect.

[You can see this if you cycle the Rx/heli power with the Tx powered up.]

Interestingly, this is different to what I've seen.

i simply turn off the tx and restart then connect the batt when this happens and it works

scallybert, I've been having the same problem as you with my Dragonus 450 and AR7000.

It's been fine before but during this summer weather (well half a week ago) it's started with the split second motor/tail twitch every once and a while. I think it's static.

This morning I've grounded the tailboom to the main frame/motor/motor mount at the same time.

Not easy but at least it's done nicely now.

I'll let you know tomorrow how it goes if the weather is good. Damn perfect weather now, no wind and just the right light but to many chavs over the field......


Silicone on the belt has solved this problem for me before, but it didn't help this time.

strangley enough this summer weather should help ! you get more static build up in cold air

Haha, that's funny. I've been reading up on how the lower humidity doesn't let static slowly go away it now instead builds up for a big strike. (Due to the air being harder to travel through)

In really cold weather (the arctic) the air is quite dry since the water molecules have frozen and are no longer suspended in air. Static cannot discharge as easily since the air is less humid.
During british winters there is generally more humidity in the air and static should be able to dissapate more easily.
Warmer weather has the opposite effect (unless you are in tropical weather) where it dries the air and again can cause larger build-ups of static.
At least thats what I think.

lol tbh i dont know the specifics of it ade. but i do know in cyprus its ok and in northern norway it ****ing hurts i have first hand experiance of that!

I'm not worried mate, hahah .


I've got proof that my heli has been fine all this year so far and winter last year yet during this summer it's starting to have what seems like static problems!

Perhaps it's because it hasn't rained in so long, which has changed today so tomorrow should be a good days flying, as long as the wind isn't to high and the rain keeps away!

What I've seen has been quite severe. On a bad day it won't even spin up, on a good day you're lucky to get through a pack without a motor shutdown or lock-up.

Oh mines just a mere annoyance I can still fly it fine. Although it must be effecting my flying, I couldn't have thought a lockout no matter how small does much good.

In the past I've had a total shutdown, leading to a crash, the only crash I've had with my Dragonus. This was with a cheap aplus ESC, cheap lipo and no BEC. Now I have a good ESC, Kong Power lipo and a 2A Medusa eBEC.
