  • Spektrum TX question

    I'm just after a hand with what the advantages of having the DX8 would be over the DX7s

    Currently I use a DX6i which I may look to upgrade (but ultimately currently have no need to as I'm not looking at having anything larger than a 450...ATM )

    I have a blade heli so spektrum makes sense but for the extra £100 for the DX8 I'm not sure why I would need it over the DX7s? If I'm not mistaken (which I often am :P) you can fly pretty much any size heli including 700 on a DX7s or have I been misguided?
    Matt
    Current = Blade mcpx v2 + DX6i
    Future = 1st - PL6 + PSU 2nd - Chase 360 3rd - DX9 4th - Who knows...there's too much choice

    Dx7s will be fine but for larger helis and there flybarless system sometimes you need the extra channel for bank switching etc also the dx7s only has one idle up an it's nice to have 2 head speeds so if your going all the way my advice is go for the best you can afford

        DX9 has voice announcements which are very handy and the software / user interface is much better than DX8. Also the aerial is more robust. If you can afford it get the DX9.

          DX8 vs DX7s = one extra channel
          DX9 vs DX8 = one extra channel

            Thanks for the help guys

            I'll see what I can afford when the time comes (never know there may be a newer model out when the time comes)

              The DX9 is actually a totally different Tx to the DX8. the DX9 is actually a slightly downgraded DX18 so it shared a lot more functionality with the DX18 than with the DX8, plus it has voice and wireless trainer which the DX18 only got very recently. The 18 and the 9 are so similar that you can swap set-up files between them

                DX8 has a backlit screen. The old DX6i and DX7s don't which makes the screen blooming hard to read if your eyesight is going like mine!

                  Repeat this.

                  And again...

                  The DX9 is a massively better radio than the 8. Far more sophisticated. Loads of useful and clever stuff.

                  If you can in any way afford the DX9, buy it over the DX8.

                    If you are buying 2nd hand then either the 7S or the DX8 will be great choices.

                    If buying new then don't go for either as they are not part of the on-going model line-up from Spektrum so updates are likely to be few and far between, if they happen at all.

                    The current family are the DX18, DX9 and DX6 (not the 6i and not the very old original 6), if buying new, stick to one of those.
