Hi all. Got to the stage of installing electronics on my 600e dfc and looking at a dx8. Without going to expensive ie 250 + would there be any other spektrum radio that would work well as im using ar7200bx with this heli. Got offered a dx8 which was purchased in 2011 would this be any different to one new in the shops now? Thanks

I use a dx8 and for the money it's spot on. There is the Hitec Aaura 9x which feels very nice in the hands and has lots of features.

There is also the Taranis that all the FPV dudes use. There are quite a few use d dx8's about now though as folks upgrade to the dx9.

Thanks all. Don't think I will go to the 9 due to cost. The dx8 I have been offered was unchanged in 2011 would this be any different to bought new? Maybe just firmware I guess?

The DX8 I bought second hand couldn't be updated without first sending it to Horizon Hobby for some radio board update related to DSMX changes as originally mine was only DSM2 capable (see: DSMX and DX8 Recall (includes some JR transmitters) - HeliFreak)

I sent it to them as it had a dodgy pot and they sorted out all issues with it leaving me then able to upgrade the firmware.

Is the one you have been offered running DSMX? If so you should be able to update it with any later firmware yourself.

If the firmware version is 2.0 or later then it is DSMX compatible. The firmware version is found in the System Settings menu. On mine it is at the bottom of the Serial Number (third) page.
The PID sticker (to tell whether it is part of the DSMX recall) is in the battery compartment.
