  • 2.4Ghz How does it all work

    Hi all

I was just wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a good website which explains how the new 2.4Ghz stuff actually works in terms of what type of modulation it uses and how it all actually works in terms of the Tx and Rx I'm into the techy stuff you see...

    Cheers

You could try the Futaba and Spektrum sites they both bang on about technical jargon and how their system is the best

Tried the Spektrum FAQ but can't really see any in depth technical data!!

I don't think you'll find these guys giving away their closely guarded trade secrets on a website! But the general principles are common to all spread spectrum systems.

There are two basic techniques - Direct sequence (as used by Spektrum) - and Frequency Hopping (as used by Futaba).

Actually neither manufacturer produces "pure" dsm or fhss - they are both hybrids to some extent. For example, although Spektrum uses DSM, it also meets the requirements for FHSS.

Look up Hedy Lamarr (the film star of the 1940s), as she is generally credited with having invented spread spectrum transmission!

The nearest I know from what I read is that (Spektrum anyhow) it binds the rx and tx together using some kind of code, this code ensures that both switch frequency at the same time and always at the same time. Clever stuff and if I knew how it worked I wouldn't be on 15k a year now would I ?
