  • Dx7 dead on startup

Question- Can a dx7 use a "household fuse" Switched on my tranny to setup my rebuilt 600e- dead screen, nuthing,, so thinks, ah,,,
fuse must have blown-sure enough it had, as it been a sunday and having no spares around, decide to nick the fuse from my dx6 which I've had spare, sitting around and doing nothing,,, opened up the case and found that the previous owner had shoehorned a 3amp household fuse instead of the glass one that should have been there!!!
Thing is that the dx6 has ALWAYS worked since I've had it and was just wondering if I could still use that fuse in my dx7,,, or do I really have to use the correct item?????

Found out on "other" forums that you CAN blow the internal fuse if you connect the tx to the charger plug whilst the charger is connected to the mains,,, which is what I did last night after 45mins on phoenix!!

im no expert but i would say it will work in the sense that you will get a circuit . but i doubt it will blow and give you the protection from an elecrical problem!

A fuse is a weak link in rthe curcuirt designed to be the weakest link.
If you put in a fuse that is oo big, then it will work - but it may no longer be the weakest bit of the circuit.
But yes, it will work - it would also work if you fitted a nail instead of a fuse - like some cowboys have been known to do in their 13A plugs...

Short term fix yes I would do it and maybe get a new fuse from "Maplins electrical store" or similar similar.. just do not make the same error as before though if you do as it will pop the board in the DX

Another thought is to use Fuse wire for time being

          3Amp fuse. Glass 5mm x 20mm

NEVER use a higher value fuse as the pcb will blow to protect the fuse !

            ^^^^^ what he said ^^^^^

I had one of my fuses go as well, scared the crap out of me when it wouldnt turn on...thankfully Nick from Inwoods knew what it was straight away and helped me out.

So long as the fuse is the same ampage/amperage (3Amp) then no worries, aesthetics (clear glass versus other) makes no difference. I wouldn't advise sticking a 13amp in it, not even temporarily!

              the dx7 has a 5amp doesnt it?????

the glass one i took out was anyway....

when mine blew i ran down to my local londis and WHEYY they stock 5amp fuses...so i was fixed (although it was a much cheaper looking fuse)

The Dx7 DEFINATELY uses a 3A fuse- anyways, I eventually decided to use the 3amp household fuse just so I could setup my 600e- found a geezer selling 160 glass fuse's from 0.5 to 10A on fleabay for £3 !!- should be here by weds,, won't run out now !!!!!.

Just as a precautionary warning, not saying that this will happen but.... on one of the other forums, a spectrum module was found to be faulty as it was drawing 13.5 Amps !!!

Not sure if he has damaged any of the tracking or cabling but he did say he heard "hissing" which is indicative of overheating !!

Never never never but a higher fuse than that which is recommended by the manufacturer. Check the user manual if in doubt. If you can't find it listed, contact the UK's customer service department for that brand, if outside normal working hours there are always people on-line who can give a you a definitive answer.

That's surprising. I'd have thought this was actually safer (mains first, DC second), if there's any difference in it.

My charger is only 150mA, so it's surprising this would blow a 3A fuse.

I think there's more chance of a problem if you plug in or out the charger with the DX7 switched on.
