This has given me ideas! I wont even be using the same system believe me. Im well aware of the regulations in the UK also, RCHA and particularly Simon are quite involved

        Hi All,

Looks like Saturday is going to be no wind all day so might get a chance to test more then. Just have to put the Bixler back together as took my FPV kit to NZ with me at Xmas. My brother and I got a couple of Tek sumos to play with over xmas. Total laugh.

Not 100% sure the rules here on FPV. Guessing at this point there are none until something happens. The military controls all the airspace so I just fly safe and stay as far away from trouble as I can. The spot I fly at I might be able to get 3km before coming across much as fairly deserted area. At this stage my video wont go that far. I do have a Helicoil antenna for the VRX so will be testing that at the same time. Kinda might be a slow process creeping the ranges out on low power systems.. But that is kinda half the fun
Just have to prey the pollution is tolerable that day and will be good to go.

        Cheers

ok so got 700 meters on the normal I think 2db antenna and RTH kicked in for a few seconds so loss of radio signal. only tested that ones. Then went to a 5db antenna and got to just over 1000m and the same thing. Tested that one a couple of times.

Unfortunately weather was really foggy so was losing my video at that range so couldn't go any further.

Looking into improving my video now so I can get a bit further out.

          cheers

ok so slowly getting further. Seems the weather plays a big part. Made a home made Helical antenna for my VRX which was a bit rough in the end but worked better than I expected. So now out to 2km on the video fairly easily.
So on a good day 2db standard gets between 1000 and 1500m. Went to a 5 and 7 DB and got that out to 2000m. Also tried a 7db patch and that was worse than the standard 2db.
I have a 10db but didnt have it with me. The thing is fairly long.
Keen to try and get more range as now the video is good and the radio limiting. Not sure what do do next. Either a wifi booster or a bite the bullet and go UHF.

Here is the latest video. The RTH kicking in is when I get out of range. Turned it on or left it on a few times just as a lazy way to get home :-)
