Binding The Ar7000

Have bought the AR7000 from the States. It's just the receiver and satellite receiver plus binding plug/s.

The illustration in the instuctions shows an on/off switch in line. One side has a lead to the receiver, the other a lead to the battery and another to the bind plug. I do not have this lead.

Questions: 1) Do I need this in order to bind the receiver? 2) If I do where do | get it from because nothing seems to be coming up on, for example, the Horizon Hobby (the Spectrum UK agent) site? and 3) how many people use the in-line switch arrangement for turning the receiver on and off?

No, just stick the bind plug on the battery connector on the RX, power it up then power the TX with the button pressed.

I do on all my NiMH powered craft, which is still most of them, I tend to use the heavy duty ones, ive a mixture of futaba and jr, so I normally bind the Rx before putting them in a model, as you cant bind through a futaba switch(not enough wires)

I don't use an inline switch as I run the Fromeco Arizona Regulators on my machines.

You don't need a switch to bind anyway.

Plug the Bind Plug directly into the Battery port of your Rx using the "male" of the 2 Bind Plugs.

Then plug your battery directly into the Rx through any other port. Then Hold the bind button on the Tx & switch on as per the normal bind procedure.

Thanks, HiroboFreak. I appreciate that the in-line switch is not needed for binding, but the fact that the illustration is in the manual suggests that an in-line on/off switch might be used by some for switching the rx on and off in normal use. My question is,

If so how many people do this?

And if few if any people do use such an arrangement why is the illustration there in the first place?

Up until comparatively recently everyone used a 4 cell nicad or nimh to power the receiver and servos and this was connected via a switch, the same as the one Spektrum provide. As we are now using faster, higher torque servos that demand more current there has been a move over to regulated systems using 2 or more cell lipo packs or 5 cell nicad/nimh, the regulator usually includes a switch so the supplied switch isn't used.

With electric helis switches are also rarely used as if it is a 3S setup usually power for the radio and servos is provided by the speed controller so connecting the flight battery also switches on the radio, no seperate switch required. For higher cell setups generally people are using a switching BEC which gets its power direct from the main pack, either this or back to regulated 2S setups.

I'm sure plenty of people are using the supplied switch harness but I would suggest this is becoming less common, I have quite a few helis and non of them use a switch harness.

I use the on/off switch with mine just so i don't have to keep taking the canopy off my 600n. I can reach it through the cutout in the bottom of the canopy.
