  • Kosmik firmware update fail.

Just wondered if anyone has done an update to a Jive Pro or Kosmik, had the update process fail but manage to recover the ESC to reattempt update?

Ive had a Kosmik and J Pro fail before and have to go back to the fatherland to be fixed.

I updated a J Pro OK yesterday but tried one of my Kosmiks today and mid update it stopped responding.ESC will now not arm(bec works) and i cannot get it to re accept an update and Progdisc wont detect it either.

Anyone experienced this and did it have to go back?

    Cheers.

had that happen before where the app stops responding, the key here is not to disconnect anything and the update will go through eventually...

if the led's on the ESC are working than try to power it up with no disk connected, hit the "press" button and it should change the blinking code (try also to plug the batteries while pressing the button)..

If this works than you should be able to reconnect the prog disk.. do so and do a reset.. after that back to pc for the update.. (than reset again after he update)
always use fully charged batteries (12S kosmik) when upgrading the firmware.

    Cheers

I would hope there's a way to start over and get it working again! A couple years ago I got the prog unit (whatever it's called) but decided to just leave it as it works fine on the firmware in it. But... I must admit I am so out of the loop on the latest firmware and what, if any, advantage there may be to updating.

I agree and as a rule leave the firmware alone but i have a Telme module now for V Bar and unfortunately all the ESCs need updating to use it bar a brand new Kosmik i got a couple of weeks ago.

I am quite happy to fly with timer but just want one Telme that i can fit to any model just to check all the power stuff as and when, testing setups etc.

Nothing has worked,no LEDs lit,BEC functions, pressing button does nothing, nor holding it during power up.

Spose its off to the mothership for them to sort it,,must say its a bit shit that on a supposed high end product like this that the firmware updating is so flaky and there isnt a way to recover it to re attempt update yourself.

That seems crazy. I'd see about asking someone at Kontronik or a field rep or something.

I’ve bricked a few updating although early on and know others who have had the same. For a supposedly high end Esc’s it’s not funny tbh. Never had an issue with Tribunus or HW on the bench or in flight. Bricked a few in flight as well but to be fair they fixed them under warranty and the Bec continued to work so auto’d down ok.

Kontronik have emailed me back they say it does indeed need to go back to them for recovery and firmware re install.

Had it happen quite a while ago with two others, hoped by now they would have made altered the firmware to stop this happening.

shame they don't invest a bit more in software,
they like "servicing" their gear which for us isn't ideal... making things hard to work on at this price point isn't doing them any favours,

on a positive note, they usually sort these things within a week so not all bad

At the price they cost I would hope not. Big up the CC massive 😉

No,this ESC is under 2 yrs old (with receipt) so warranty otherwise they charge you.

After an update, the esc always appears bricked. Have you tried the mode 1 reset? If that won’t work, then it will need to go back.

Yes tried that,no LEDs illuminate,no beeps,no response from pressing button.

During update about a quarter of the way thru the bar onscreen just stopped moving,it came up ESC not responding, left it for 30 minutes and no change before finally powering it down knowing what was likely to now happen.
