align 2 in 1 man enough ???

Right set-up is as follows

align trex 700
align ds615 on cylics
futaba s9254 on tail
savox sg 0351 throttle
align gp900 receiver and gyro unit with 2 speccy sats.

battery optipower 3650mah 2cell lipo (checked its fine)

ok i have all the above on my 700 i did have a brand new align 2 in 1 glow unit installed, on the first build set-up i hooked the battery up to the 2 in 1 via the red connector bonded the gp900 to my ds7s (new memory) then started moving servos it check reverse etc and noticed after both sats flashing. i double checked battery it was at 96% so rebooted both tx and gp900 all fine stable lights slowy moved servos everything fine but soon as i moved servos quickly i noticed servos stalling and gp900 rebooting and then flashing sats again.so rebooting tryed the rx battery off my 600 same results.so i ripped the 2 in 1 off my 600 and tried that one. SAME results WTF i was thinking so i then used a 4 cell nimh rx pack without the 2 in 1 unit ,not a problem no resettling or flashing sats.

after that i went and got myself a gryphon gvr-7020 reg hooked that up everything good. so using same battery as from the beginning i hook it up with a home made adaptor to use the smaller red connector same one as on align 2 in 1 (same cable as well) low and behold low batt alarm going off with servo movement i then rehooked same battery up using the xt60 connectors and all is good.

so the only thing i can think is the size of the cable on align 2 on 1 is only just up for the job and anything higher than stock servos rx etc the 2 in 1 fails ??????

has anyone got any insight to this ?????? what can be done about it ? if anything

I've never been keen on them myself, as they can easily cause brown outs with power hungry servos such as the align. They simply don't handle enough current, resulting in voltages dropping hence why your sats are complaining. Personally I'd go the A123 or Gryphon regulator route, and use a remote or push button glow system, such as the auto booster. Problem there is there's another pontential £100 spent.

I had similar problems when using a cheap low discharge LiFe pack. It was so severe it caused my VBar to reboot in the air due to a low voltage (below 3.3v). I changed to a kontronik ESC that has a reputable BEC and haven't had a single issue since

thanks for reply yeah i ordered myself the gryphon voltage reg gvr-7020 and autoglow unit but i got buy a new gyro and rx as gp900 as gov built into channel 5 and no way of using that channel

Ah I see. Expensive hobby huh haha. Which gyro did you go for? You'll need an 8th channel for the auto glow, unless you mix it into another channel somehow.

ive not got one yet but im guessing spartian quark off top of my head.

also not going to use a gov atm so only need 7 channels until i get either a dx8 or 9

Ive had quite a few issues not so long ago with the 2 in 1 not being man enough to power everything. Best bet is to get a decent voltage reg, Something like a Western Robotics Hercules, Gryphon Vega, Castle BEC pro etc

yeah i deffo changing the 2 in 1 outs specially on my large r22 scale heli lol good job its grounded atm with dead engine, also it might be why my gyros on my 600 keeps going weird i virtually ruled everything else out

Autoglows are nice but if out of channels there's nothing to stop you using the 2:1 just as a glow start apart from unnecessary weight

Going against the tide here but there is nothing wrong with the Align 2-1 in fact it's a great bit of kit. I've been flying the. for well over three years. in a standard set up like yours it's got bags of power. - Arguably the most power hungry set up iwouod be DFC running 3GX v4.1 and it can run this with no issues doing hard tick tocs all day long.

The ( well documented ) issue with the unit is the switch and it easy to both diagnose and fix. Essentially the switch connecting plates rust/corrode and the unit fails. The best option is to get a spray called 'corrosion x' 1 can will see you through a lifetime of use. You can see the issue by turning on the heli and tapping the switch. If when doing this the lights showing the charge flicker you need to take action. Other indicators are excessive discharge - it's actually the same issue but you think it's excessive discharge. Two quick blasts of corrosion x each year will see you through gallons and gallons of trouble free flight on top of which you have a cheap solution to a switch, remote glow and regulator. Don't believe the hype this is a great unit more than powerful enough for flybarred/fbl models.

This is not my fix - just Google 'align 2-1 switch fix'.

Unfortuntely not, they can come like this. It's the switch itself that is poor and if you do the Google you'll find better men than me explain it for you.
