Hobbywing Turnigy firmware update?

Has anyone done the fabled firmware update that was mentioned here before a couple years ago? All I can find are threads by a former forum member and I get an error message saying I don't have permission to view it or something, I assume those old threads are just deleted.

It was a Turnigy firmware you could load into the Hobbywing ESC for a much improved soft start (and possibly better gov, I'm not sure).

Mine is a HW 70HV.

I have two of these 70HVs and one has the updated firmware and works really well but I have no idea what firmware, what revision, how you go about flashing it or what hardware you need (obviously it takes some type of USB interface which I do not have).

You will need the hw program box to change the firmware of the esc. Install the usb software first then from turnigy firmware choose the latest. I still have the software turnigy if you need it I will email it to you.

If it is a true HobbyWing then the proper hobbywing programming box will link to the companies' website to show you the available firmware revisions you can load.

I got my programming box from RobotBirds when I purchased my HW 45.

Right now I just have the simple one that does not have a USB jack.

Doh! I just ordered one from Robotbirds last night. Well, no biggie. Anyway it should be here in a day or so and then I can do his update.

I haven't done it yet but all I know is I have two of these ESCs and one of them is brilliant. I received the all singing programming card so I'll try this probably later today.

---Just a quick update. I hooked up the programming box and installed the PC software and first checked the firmware in the better of the two ESCs and also checked the hardware version. They are both the same hardware and the good one is running V1.07_100506_U firmware. So I have now updated the other one to the same firmware and made sure all the settings are the same.

There is also a speed calculator in the PC software that will give throttle % settings for the headspeed you want. Sooo as soon as I get a chance I will try out the ESC with the new firmware and if it works exactly like the other one I will be very pleased.

The newest firmware is 1.07 as hw is only 1.05. Remember to swap over the esc wires to the motor as when you first spool it up it will go on reverse.

Today I got a chance to properly test the updated firmware and I am happy to report it works brilliantly . The soft start is now very smooth, no sudden kick at the beginning, the governor now works really well. My throttle settings are still a bit too low and I think this is because the output is coming from the Vortex and has been calibrated precisely for 100% each way, so using the settings I have on the other one is not giving me the same headspeeds. I will look again in the HW calculator for 10 poles and then get someone to tacho it for verification. What I find impressive though, is that it works really well even at quite low throttle (currently I was running at 69% in normal, 72.5 in idle-1 and 74 in idle-2 because that's what I have on the Hirobo but arguably it could be bumped up a bit as well). The motor and ESC stayed just a little warm, not hot at all (setup is Align 600mx / 510kv, settings are 8khz and timing is 11.25, governor high, in a Knight 600e with 600mm blades - headspeed around 2000 ish and prob should be running more like between 2100 and 2200.)
