  • Servos for Gaui X5

    Fella's

I need some help, I cannot decide on what servos to use in my X5. Can you please take a look at what I have got in mind and comment on each one. I am no 3D pilot, and when I do eventually get round to doing 3D it will most likely be some mild stuff. (The X5 was somewhat of an overkill purchase for my skill level - but hey its an AWESOME heli and look forward to receiving it on Monday).

Without breaking the bank balance any further, the servos i have in mind are the following:

    Fast Lad Performance

(Ideal price range but, will it fit, dimension is: 35.5mm x 15mm x 28.6mm)

    Fast Lad Performance

    (A little slow??)

    Fast Lad Performance

(A little rich for my flavour but if I have to......)

    Fast Lad Performance

(I am not a very big fan of Align, however, if I really have to.......)

I am open to any further suggestions, just nothing over the £45 price range.

To complete the build I am will also be ordering a Quark with....... again which servo should I go for here.

Also I am using a Walkera 2801 Pro (8 Channel TX) will a good spectrum receiver work with this TX? Any other suggestions welcome.

    Thanks in advance.

    Check out what Spartan reckon:
    Spartan RC

I'd also see what 'bundles' there are eg Fast Lad Performance

These are likely to be suitable servos, at a package price.

    No.

I've got one of these (with a 4#3), and while I quite like it, I'm not sure I'd use it on a big heli.

IIRC BuzzFlyer do the Walkera Rxs - and they're really quite cheap. No remote receivers, etc, IIRC. Again, not sure I'd take that risk on a bigger heli.

      Hi Scallybert

      Thanks for the response bud!

Gonna go Quark Futaba S9257 route for the tail, and Align DS610's for the cyclic.

Oh C***P, was hoping it would not come to that, so I am gonna have to sell my TX and buy a Spectrum TX and 2 RX's for the 255 and X5.

Which RX do you suggest for:

      Gaui 255
      Gaui X5

Are you sure an S9257 isn't a bit small ? (I've got one on a G5, and your X5 is a bigger machine).

GAUI 255, AR6110 (or AR6110E). Next generation on from 6100. I like these. I have one on an H200.

AR6200 seems like the obvious choice for your X5. I assume you don't need more than 6 channels (don't trust me on that...). I have these on my G5s.

        You may find a Tx comes with a suitable receiver. DX6i & AR6200 was a package. I've also seen DX7s & AR6200.

DX6i or DX7 is always an interesting debate. As you mght expect, 7 is better in general, but costs more.

          Servos for Gaui X5

Yup to small, gone for the Align DS650 Quark combo.

Spoke to John at Buzzflyer, he reckons 7 other customers are flying 425's with the BF8 Rx without any issues.

I am still learning so no heavy 3D for a long time still, therefore for my skill set will be fine with the BF8 for now. Later I will upgrade to Spectrum Tx and Rx.

Thanks for the advise and help bud, much appreciated!

            I would use AR7000 for X5 and Ar6110E for 255

Unless you need 7 channels (which you shouldn't for an electric), I don't see that an AR7000 gets you anything over an AR6200. (Does it ?)

The concern I'd have is that the consequences of a radio issue are likely to be that much worse with a bigger heli.

I also don't know how you set things like throttle failsafes, etc on the BF Rx. On Spektrum, this is set when you bind. AIUI, the BF 2.4G system effectively binds each time you power up.

I'd certainly be careful and do very regular range-checks, along with careful location of the Rx antenna.

The AR7000 seems to be more reliable - if you do a search for AR6200 you'll find quite a lot of posts regarding issues. Additionally the AR7000 now has a logging capability.
