very similar situation to you MJ, had vbars for years as they worked for me. Tried the vortex when it first came out and same as you was endlessly tweaking, loved how it felt but there were some strange tendencies i couldn't get rid of so gave up and went back to v bar.
So wanting to scratch the itch again i bough a vortex a month or so ago, now on v3. Imo, it still has the same feel which is great but the main difference is the strange tendancies it had with v1 seem to have almost gone, i wouldn't say completely as i'm still having some minor niggles with the tail but ill persevere.
The only thing thats letting the vortex down for me is adjustments on the tail, i dont mean how the tail feels in flight it feels great it just seems to be needing alot more attention than the vbars tail ever did, for me anyway.
The head/cyclics are bang on!

I have only tried v3, all i can say is i don't dislike it, but i don't prefer it over the vbar. i am currently setup on 3d preset and upped agility slightly. did like some of the bert k settings but some parts but didnt feel quite right for me.
going from a 3G to beastx was light and day difference and the beastx filled me with confidence, but I'm not getting that when comparing vortex and vbar. just my 2 pence worth.
The main difference between V1 and V3 is the plug and playness of the vortex. The general feel out the box is good and you normally only need to tweak the agility etc the same as a vbar.
I've flown both back to back for 2 years now with the vortex on all three versions. I prefer the version 2 software as the tail is softer but the cyclics take a bit more tweaking to get right. I still run vbar for my low head speed and set piece machine as it has a softer more linear feel and the tail is far more consistent in constant piro moves.
If you like to smack it hard the vortex is awesome, if you want to hoon about the sky doing big Air VBar is better.
The only thing I will say is if you do try a vortex don't expect it to feel like a vbar because it won't, it's a vortex and is very different in feel to the vbar.

i agree with the above ......
IMHO 20+yrs flying with a flybar really makes you appreciate any good fbl unit ,
MAJ have another go with my 700n now I've updated to V3 and messed about with expo / agility / pitch to tail mix and a few other settings ( which I can't remember ! ) its certainly a big improvement over V1 . .
