  • MKS HBL665 + HBL 669 Thoughts...

So before I start I'll point out that I am now Sponsored by MKS-UK, and as such I expect to be crucified for this, but here goes

I bought and built my 700e v2 about 6 months ago now, using all original gear apart from a vbar and castle bec pro v2. This ran faultlessly for 5 months or so, but I always wanted to remove the BEC (just another failure point), but with the Outrage HV servo's costing over £450 for the 4 I decided to stick with what I had, which was working just fine. Roll on to a post by Andy from MKS offering 40% off and you can see where I'm going; £405 worth for £240.

They arrived about 3 weeks back, and certainly looked the part, with a metal "heatsink" centre section, and plastic top and bottom case sections.

Fitting was straight forward, although it should be noted that they are a few mm taller than the Aligns - not an issue in the 700e, but may be in something else. I did also have to reverse the servo directions of all 4 servo's in the vbar software. I promptly removed the BEC pro v2, and used an Optipower 2150 2s pack in it's place. I didn't want a switch as its yet another failure point, and can also create a point of high resistance, limiting power to the servos. I instead bought 2 servo leads, soldered them together with an EC3, and hot glued the 2 servo plugs in to the vbar (dual redundancy and double the current handling ability).

I've flown them now about 10-15 times, and so am happy to make a mini review of them. The first flight was uneventful; I flew the 5 minutes out, all felt very good, I landed and recharged the lipo, it took 204mAh for a reasonably hard 5 minute flight - very impressed at that; it means I can stick to the pretty small and light Opti 2150's without fear of only getting a couple of flights per pack. They are also dead quiet, almost silent in fact which is a revelation having used Align servos on and off for a few years. I've since put a few weeks worth of use through them, and other than needing to drop the tail gain a couple of percent, all is great. They are no warmer than ambient temp after a full flight, and today I've had 5 flights out of a 2150 and still only used 1056mA.

I'm very happy with them, they are very very accurate, snappier than the Align's, and collective pitch pump moves have noticably sharper stops. Tail hold is faultless, in fact I'd happily say it's actually a good deal better than the DS650 I previously had fitted where I had a few blowouts in fast backwards flight when bogging the head (basically being a bit ham fisted). If your looking for a set of HV servo's, you won't go wrong with these. In time I'll update to say how tight they remain after a few months of use.

Today the weather was perfect, 27 degrees, a light breeze, maybe 10mph tops, and blue skies as far as you could see, scorchio! Dave Rand video'd a flight for me, although it looks like he didn't quite keep up in a few places

They are every bit as good as the Outrage HV ones that we use in the FBL 700 Turbine, but cheaper Looking to get a set in the 550 at some point

Yea, them Outrage ones imho are spectacular so if these are as good then it can only be a good thing.

I'm sure Vinny runs the Outrage in his Faifa and he smacked that in HARD today, smashed the heli to bits resulting in a near re kit but all 4 Outrage servos survived so if these puppies can do that as well then they on to a winner

I'm hoping not to crash test them any time soon, but if I do, I'll update on how they faired
