  • MKS DS 95 for T-Rex 450 pro FBL, shortest review ever

    "recommended".
    So much for the review

Well, some more info: The heli is heavier now, but it actually feels lighter (more snappy).
The reason is that the earlier servos (Savöx SH-0257) were struggling against the forces from the head.
With the DS 95, I get collective blade flutter in abrupt collective moves even at reduced headspeed. This has never happened with the other servos. And the heli is more responsive, it "hangs" better on the collective stick in travelling tictocs or the like.

Cyclic is also better. Abrupt moves and stops are sharper and wobble less. Still not as good as a .90, but the best-flying 450 I've tried so far.

I was secretly hoping I could give them a bashing and sell them on, since they are so heavy. But no, I'll keep them, definitely.

Fast-lad had a good price for a set of three, I got them from there:
    3 x Combo -MKS DS95 Micro Coreless Digital Cyclic Servo - DS95_combo

I've done only three flights so far, can't comment on reliability.

The wires are not a millimeter too long, they barel fits with the mini V-bar on the gyro plate. Suits me fine, I don't want any avoidable extra weight.

    Important:
The Align DS4 black servo horns from the T-Rex kit fit the servos, but it takes quite some force to get them on the first time only. In fact, so much force that I'd be worried about damaging the servo.
Instead, use a M2.5? x 6 mm screw from the frame to pull it onto the horn. I didn't take risks with the screws that come included (too short for the thicker DS4 horns) and used the longer ones permanently.
The servos come with two identical horns each, which I didn't use since I'd know where to get spares for the DS4 horns if they break. Which they never do.

it's now official: The 450 can do crack moves. Even though it's flybarless.
Wish I could... surprisingly difficult on this small heli. Have to practise...

See, now this is a PROBLEM I had with my old 450 pro FBL with these DS95's. They were so fast that if it over-corrected (which it did occasionally), then it would start "cracking" for a few seconds, then calm down! I got the arse and put it back to flybarred

I believe I have observed the same, the heli keeps shaking a bit after the sticks are released.
            Reducing swash gain helped (V-bar).

              What's 'crack moves' or 'cracking'?

shaking the collective stick during moves, looks like the heli has withdrawal symptoms.
