  • MKS DS670 cyclic review

Due to a DS610 cyclic failiure on my 700, i was offered by Andy at phoenixtech to try the new MKS servos at the special price he was doing for heliaddicts members.
Well even though it meant spending more money, after looking at the specs i thought i would give them a go and replace all 3 cyclics in my 700.
Well had them arrive 2 days ago and only just managed to get around to playing with them today.
They come in a nice big plastic case, well presented similar to JR look for quality.
After opening the case i pulled out the servo, main thing i noticed was the 2 really beefy servo horns, one in a straight cross pattern, again nice and chunky with 3 link ball posn on each arm, and another round disc similar size to align 600/700 disk size with the same ammount of posns.
After a quick check these round disk are the same pitch as the align ones, meaning they will be dirrect replacements for the existing align ones.
Had an inspection of the servo, and was surprised to see mostly the whole case is aluminium bar the back plate, meaning no more snapped off tabs and better heat distribution.
Anyway went about the task of loading them into the 700, all went well and easy, and then got them plugged in and to the rx and started the proper set-up.
One thing i noticed straight away was how quiet they were, not the usual align noise i get, even when moving they are wisper quiet, even compared to the JR's in my vision 90.
They are all ready to go now, one thing to note is that i had to reverse all the servos on the reverse sreen on my DX7, so the signal is opposite, similar to how hitecs are to futaba.
Flight testing will be done hopefully next weekend, as i am waiting a part for my 700 so cannot test fly this weekend, but am very hopefull these servos will be the ones to have.
At the moment, the quality of the casings stands out, as does the smooth quiet movements.
Will get a test video done as well.
Just to note, i have no osociation either with MKS or Phoenixtech and Andy is offering a deal for all heliaddicts members

I got a DS95 and will try it on the tail of my 450SE.

The case is all metal so it looks very sturdy. Before I install it I am going to fly a bit with the current servo (Acerlab D12MG) and see at what gain setting I start to get wag. I can then compare this with the gain setting the MKS servo allows before a wag sets in.

If the specs are accurate it should perform very well.

Well today i eventually got around to test flying these baby's, all i can say is very good really, they hold very well, centre very quick and in all of my usual manovers performed without fault at all. They run wisper quiet and responce very quickly. Seemed like i wasn't adjusting the 700's flight path as much as i normanly do and on quick pitch changes the responce was quicker, and so had to back my pitch off on manovers a bit to compensate, so may take a bit of getting use to, but that just shows how servos are improving all the time.
All in all a very succesful test flight.
As i was at the field on my own, didn't get a vid but will do hopefully on sunday.
I may well have to get some more to go in my other 90
