  • Mks servo crunchy

Hi chaps I took delivery of an mks bl980 tail servo today but it is not smooth when you manually turn the gears ? Every tail servo I've had has been smooth as but this one is like stirring a box of Lego
Is this a trait of mks or should I return it ??

I found the same thing with my ds95i Don. Very notchy and crunchy when you manually turn the servo. You will find it very erratic and twitchy as a servo, not smooth like ones you are used to. Personally i don't like it and have now taken it off my warp in a bid to sort the tail. Expensive servo now sits in my spare parts box

Maybe some servos just need to wear in a bit. I have an MKS 980 on the tail of the Beam and I just checked it and it feels relatively smooth to me but I'm turning it with the arm on and the tail linkage connected. This one has 40 or 50 flights on it now.

My dilemma is the servo is new out of the box. As soon as I use it then it can be blamed on crash damage ?

No it's fine. That's normal apparently Don, my MKS tail servo does the same (DS760) feels like grit in the gears doesn't it.

I'd just phone them and ask if it's normal.

I have one in the the X5 tail and I am quite positive that it was a bit notchy when new,
just turned it by hand now and it feels smooth,
not sure if it doesn't need to have a few runs, probably worth connecting to a servo tester or receiver and let it run for a few minutes to see if it slacks a bit?

IMO I would say it's fine. Google 'MKS servo gritty' and see what results come back, that should make you feel better

I was going to get a set of MKS for my 450. This post has put me off a bit.... I thought that they are meant to be really good servos. Not cheap either!

They are good servos, sure there's a reason why they are shipped like this and if not and it's a genuine fault then I'm sure they'll replace without any problems.

Don't let me put you off by all account the ds95 are awesome servos on a 450 I just haven't used mks before and from a search it appears to be quite normal for some of the range
