  • JR FBL DS21 (now DS396) servo - alternatives

Has anyone found a suitable alternative to the JR DS396 servo, used on the FORZA 450 cyclic? Grateful for any information leading to the capture of such servos! Thank you.

I'm quite interested in this too as I have a dead Forza 450 skulking around in the loft with a set of duff cyclics. I've set aside a set of Align 415's as I happen to have them in stock but have yet to see if they will fit.

Searching the interwebs; people are suggesting that most micro servos fit. If so, I would go for the KST 215's or the Turnigy 306 (same servo) just for the price/performance ratio.

When I get a chance, I'll check what fits and what doesn't.
So many heli's, so little time.

Thanks Joe. That is interesting because, so far, I haven't found a single 'other make' servo, micro or sub-micro, that matches the dimensions of the Forza unit. I'm still on the case and will try and keep updating this thread. Anyone else with a festering Forza, looking for servos??

There are pics of the Forza with KST 215s fitted over on Helifreak, looks like they fit fine: https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?p=6154637

Thanks Grumpy. I'll check them out. I've been working on stated dimensions and suspect that length x width x height are expressed differently by some manufacturers!

The sizes quoted for the DS21/DS396 appear to be either incorrect or measured in a different way to everyone elses servos. In fact the dead DS21's I have fitted on mine are standard micro servo sizes and therefore any standard micro servo should fit as long as it has a central mounting hole in each flange (most do).

So, back to the original question; I will fit my crappy Align DS415's as I have them hanging around and don't intend keeping the heli but otherwise I would probably fit KST215's or the Turnigy 306's as they are cheap and perform well.

Interesting variations in description - JR calls theirs "Sub Micro", everyone else -"Micro". As for dimensions - we appear to have different conventions. It really is not helpful, is it?
