  • Possible DS615 failure

Just wondering if anyone else has had any problems with DS615's? I was hovering my T rex about at the weekend and as i went to come out of hover for forward flight it pitched to the right then hard left, curled over and dive bombed in to the grass. After picking it up i found the aileron servo was solid and the top linkage is bent but no damage from where it went in so thinking the servo may have failed?

Update on the servo. Ordered new gear set for it yesterday and thought i'd take it to bits and see which gear broke. Answer is none. All in tact, all fine no teeth missing. Put it back together and it works fine going right but left it drains all the battery level from 4 bars to one and only moves about 1/3 of the limit and then gets so hot you can barley hold it. Guess i'll be returning the new gears then!

I had one were it went really stiff to move and found one of the gears had picked up on its spindle, and was turning in the plastic. The spindle had evidence of galling, so I made a new spindle from correct drill size and re greased everything.

Pulled it all to bits again and got out the big magnifying glass to inspect it properly. It looks like it jumped a tooth and bent the pin holding the gear cog in. Installed new gear set, perfect.

Good work finding the fault. Pretty sure that must have been a result of the crash, not the cause of it. The bent link rod is proof positive that the servo too a big impact in the crash.

That's what my flying buddy said but i still say it was the servo's fault, obviously!!
