  • Csmc gyro

As a newbie to helicopters can anyone tell me about this type of gyro, it`s a different type of gyro than I used to, the gyro on my T-Rex 500 has one set of wires coming from it and is small, the gyro on my Raptor 30 has four sets of wires coming from it and is the same size as an 80`s yuppy phone, LOL, the letters and numbers on the side are as follows ICG540 gyro advanced heading lock CSMC, are these gyro`s any good or should I look at changing it as soon as possible, any help would be greatfully appreciated guys, thanks.

    Sean.

That's quite an old gyro but if it flies well and does everything you want it to there's no need to change.

If it's not flying well then have a look at putting a spartan quark on it.

I agree with this. Should you, however decide to change, the SL720 is still one of the best you can get albeit a horrible size and shape. Plus if you went second hand you can pick them up for virtually nothing

              Thats a good gyro.
All the tech data for the 540 is still avaiable here
The 540 was their top of the rtange gyro until the 560 came out (in the same case).
The extra connection is to change some detailed settings via a pc -the lead that came with the 540 connected to an old style tectronix serial printer port (the big plug with the clips on the side) so you could hook it up to your amstrad 2086...)
No worries the default settings work fine.
Compared to the latest gyros there is a little bit of drift on warm up - you can escape most of that by plugging it in and switching it all on for 10 mins, then powering down and back up again before you actually take off.
This gyro is well capable of fast backwards and constant piroetting flight if set up carefully as per the instructions. Due to the large tail case, if you start doing really hard stopping 3D manoevres you can get a little tail bounce as the gyro wobbles a bit, improved by fitting a velcro strap over the top.
