take gears out, and plug in to power, the little cog that's left in there should just spin as it canot centre, if this is not spinning servo motor is dead, kev

Done that now, motor was spinning replaced gears screwed together no movement again. Unscrewed while plugged into rec screwed it up working fine. Now noticed that the pitch and ail servos I've just rebuilt are very notchy when moved by hand unlike the elev and tail servo. Not sure what's best to do, replace both ail and pitch with ds416m's or go for savox sh0257 can't afford mks or anyone got any other suggestions on which one to use or what going on with the ones I've rebuilt

Don't worry about what they feel like when you move the arm by hand. Connect them up and move them one at a time. Rest your finger on the arm lightly as it moves. It is likely that it will feel smooth. If it doesn't, you have a problem.

If you do replace the servos, get three the same for cyclic/collective. Dissimilar ones may move in an unbalanced way.

I replaced my ds 410 servos with hobbyking TG306 MG. Apart from the fact that their fixing is different, I have found them to be eminently satisfactory (but I am not a 3D pilot).

Finally got it sorted, the pin locator hole on the top cover was fractionally elongated. not enough to notice it, but after a chat with kyle @rchero trying to source a ds415m. He suggested trying on a different top cover as sounded like the gears were jamming up becuase of the slight movement of the pin. Hey presto sorted end of nightmare trying to figure out what was wrong with the rebuilt servo
