  • Align tail servo issues

Has anyone had any issues with align ds525m tail servo, ive had one pack up all together and another just stop working in mid flight for few seconds, then start working again, just wondering if anyone had similar problems?

    Thanks
    Nick

I have had a 525 and 520 both pack up in flight, luckily not totally and i was able to land the models.

Personally I think they are best avoided, on my 500 I now run a DS650 and it's vastly better than the 525 it replaced much better tail control.

It's an easy mod took me about 10 mins with a dremel and small file. I would recommend putting in a 650 or full size BK tail servo.
If you can't be bothered doing the mod either a futaba or BK mini tail would do the trick.

I've seen a DS525 'go to sleep' when walking to the flight-line.

Pushing the tail linkage seems to wake it up.

          I think I've seen DS510Ms & DS410Ms do it as well.

It shouldnt do it in mid flight though, its happened few times now, just stopped working, but managed to land each time, luckily!

If it's for a 450 then the best thing you can do is get an MKS ds95i for the tail. Expensive but worth it.

If you are having repeated servo failures then you probably need to dig a little deeper than the servo, even if it turns out that the servo is the real problem.

Check that you do not have any binding at either end of the servo travel( i.e. make sure that your servo isnt getting to the end of the slider and still trying to push), and that your linkages e.t.c are all moving freely. Check that the tail slider is able to move very freely with the link rod off.

Check that you have your FBL system set up to the correct servo type/frequency, as this too can be the cause of premature failure if it is set wrong.

It might just be two bad servos, but that would be pretty bad luck

Honestly you can if you want, but ds95i is ample for a 450. I run them on all of mine. No need for the extra weight!

like jimmyhorns says, definitely dig deeper to check your mechanics are good too.

Thanks for reply but pretty sure its servos, tail all nice and free etc, this has happened with two different 450's with different fbl units, checked for servo type/frequency numerous times,it so annoying.!

Ah ok, I assumed that it was the same 450

Fits straight into a T-Rex 500 DFC/Pro tail (in place of a DS520/525), so probably into a 450 Pro as well.

I've had a strange experience with one of these, on a T-Rex 500. Worked fine (v nicely) when used gently; but kicked when pushed. Played with various things, but replacing with (I think) a DS525, or such made the problem go away. I've opened up the MKS Servo, and it *may* have had a gear tight on a shaft. Probably sorted that, but never put it back on a heli.

The BK servos are slightly larger than DS525s. [The Goblin 500 takes either BKs or DS510Ms as swash, but uses different mounting plates.]

There's an adapter to fit a DS95i in place of a DS525 on 450 Pros. The adapter is a bit of a faff, but this little MKS servos are well good.
