  • DS525M Servo any good?

    Hi

I'm looking into buying a Align 500 super combo kit and whilst researching I noticed a good few posts about the tail servo. Is the servo any good?

The kit comes with the Align DS525M. Is it this one that has the bad reviews or the earlier version?

    Thanks

I've had this servo on my 450, 450L and G500. Never had any issues

It seems it's the older one. I checked the time and dates on the posts and web pages and they predate this servo.

      Thanks for the reply!

I have quite a few of the DS515M cyclic version of the New type Align Mini servo.
        No problems so far.
I was worried about them when they first can out as they were a bit cheaper than the 510's & 520's.
I have searched on the forums a couple of times for failure reports & not found much, and considering the massive number out there.
That said I have always run larger tail servos, my 500 has a full size tail servo in it.

If its a new 500pro Efl or Dfc the std tail servo is crap, it's only ever okish on 100% throttle curve and will blow out. I've converted mine to a full size servo ds650 which is a pain to do but transforms the tail ImageUploadedByTapatalk1389985579.162775.jpg

            Hi

I'm looking at the new pro DFC super combo. Was it just a case of making the hole bigger to make it fit?

              DS525M Servo any good?

Yep, pull of the plastic mouldings bit of masking tape, draw your lines and either a dremal or a hack saw blade. It really is worth the effort tho.
Plus you can bring the head speed down a bit

Thanks for the info. I was going to run around an 85% throttle while I got used to the model and increasing the head speed as I progressed. Sounds like a worthwhile upgrade. Just in case I chicken out of modding the frame is there a 500 size alternative.

                Thanks

                  I run mine on 85%
I had a spare ds650 so went with that. Might be worth asking on Helifreak in there 500 section for midi size servo recommendations.
Depends also on your skill level, I'm pushing my tail very hard and fly in quite windy conditions so I need a strong tail, If your not loading the tail you might be ok with the standard servo.

I will have a good look on helifreak thanks. Well it will be used for "extreme" hovering and circuits for a while until my confidence is up.

Yes but to get a mini size servo that has full size spec is a bit ££.
The MKS HV9780, is just the ticket but around £70.

Anther alternative is to fit a boom mount like the older Trex500.

Your right it is a bit costly. But it looks fantastic! ( i never thought I'd say that about a servo).
