  • Poor gear quality in the DS410's

So I am about to replace the plastic gear in the DS410 on my 250 for about the 5th time now.. Anyone else find the quality of the plastic is no better than something inside a Christmas cracker?

The plastic gear I am referring to is the one that the servo horn attaches to. Mine keep breaking, it's not like it has been crashed. Almost every time I get it out of its box one has broken

    Not impressed Align...

They're not the best servos but I've never seen a gear break without a crash.

Don't talk to me about these little buggers, been through so many of these lately. I had to replace gears after a crash And found the metal gears I put in not that good. They were all nocthy just didn't seen nice. I put the plastic ones in and they have been ok up till now. I have a couple that suffer from "jitters" and no matter I do to clean and sort out, can't cure it. I have them on my 450, but if they go again I'll swap them for SAVOX and get rid of the 410's

Ugh! Just replaced the broken one, and in doing so the other one broke .

Going to order 3x metal ones now. What a waste of money...

HS65MGs here, since day one on my 250s.
Non digital & proud of it! Works fine as long as your FBL units works with non digitals, I'm using a Beastx.
Also they seem fine with the Std yellow ESC BEC, as non digitals are lower current draw.
The Output splines on the Hitec are about twice the diameter of the Align's & they have been fine with 4 crashes so far.

            Tim.

I too was seriously disappointed with the Align servos, and the Savox equivalents (They do come from the same factory so not surprising).

However the Turnigy S306G-HV servos are excellent! Put 3 in my stretched 6s 'pocket rocket' and they are fantastic. I crashed hard enough a couple of weeks ago to break the servo arm (they use standard hitec arms) and not a problem with the gears. Do the insulation mod (layer of insulating tape insite the bottom of servo case) and threadlock the screws.

£14 a pop. Have been dubious about Turnigy (their Nano-tech 1.3ah 6s are useful as paper weights only).

              Great servos

These are fab little servo's, but mine like the along broke off on the spline bit, flush with the housing and I was even flying!! Just leveling the swash lol. Cracking little servo tho. If I was you you insted of paying £12 odd quid for metal gears, put some new servo's in while you have her apart!! You know your going to have to in the end anyway.

Yes, quite possibly. Although I have a DS95i on the tail and they are worlds apart quality wise. I though i'd trashed one, and certailly would have done if it was a 410. And when they say metal gear, why is there a plastic one in the train.

Sorry to hear about your 500 B.T.W. matey

My take on 450 cyclic servos is that if you can stomach the steep price, DS95s are the ones. If not, working down the MKS range is a good plan. I've got some (IIRC) DS545s which are cheap & interesting - but I've not flown yet.

What I like about the DS95s & other MKS servos is that as well as performing, there's minimal slop - so you can set-up accurately on little helis. It does seem to make a difference.

Cheers. It was pure cack-handedness. I reckon I was way too tense, and when I flipped it I kicked the rudder when I punched the collective. Disoriented myself and goodnight Vienna. Second flight of the day - fortunately I had the 450 Pro to play with, and focused on not being so snatchy.
