  • Best position for Gyros

    Hi All.
So been trying to sort out a problem with my 250 tail. Have been going through all the recommended changes and slowly getting there but still not great.

So was looking at the gyro (3GX) position and got thinking does it make any difference how far from the center of the heli it is?
If it is say directly under the main shaft where the heli rotates when you piro the Gyro will turn on the spot so fairly much only have the piro movement.
If it is say a few inches back form the main shaft when you piro it will have the same direction change but also the acceleration of the distance change.
Maybe 2 different thing? Gyro measure direction change and accelerometer measure the distance change.

Does that sound right? Will it make any difference if I move the gyro closer to the main shaft?

    Cheers

Makes no difference at all...10 degrees of rotation is 10 degrees of rotation, regardless of where the gyro is,

Yep location doesnt mean owt, HOWEVER for a flybarless system the fitting must be 100% square on to all axis'. so needs to be bang on the centre line (centre of gyro is exactly centre to the heli, use the boom as a guide) and it needs to be prependicular to the side frames. 1mm out at one end can make the diff between a good handling heli and a great handling one.

Also make sure your gyro plate is parrallel to the boom
Some say my left nipple is the shape of a Raptor canopy.......... And that for fun I chase sheep in wellies 3 sizes too big. All I know is I am 3D Clod

Im was just thinking about it as going to move the electrics around a bit. On the 250 its on the bottom mount and very close almost touching the bottom plate with only 1 bit of foam tape under it. Want to try and give it some more room. Fairly sure it square as has very little play not to be. It hovers really well and some basic forward flight I have done seems ok but just cant get the gain up enough to lock the tail in with out a crazy wag. Seems to be a fairly standard 250 problem.
Just thought it might be worse if the gyro was further away from the rotation (main shaft) point on the heli. Would be dealing with not only the rotation but also distance traveled.
Just thought the acceleration / deceleration might mess it up a bit.

Must say feels very different to my vbars. Still not sorted yet but.
