  • Assan GA-250 gyro , any good ?

i have aquired a Blade SR and i'm looking to replace the Gyro with a Assan GA-250 gyro or maybe 401 ? has anybody had any experiance of the Assan GA-250 gyro , how reliable ? there certainly cheap ! , would i be better sticking with a 401 ?

I had a GA-250 on my 250 clone, it was fine for hovering and fff but I never felt it was 100% locked in

The Futaba 401 is a good solid gyro, bit old school but I still use one on my Trex 450.
if your in the market for a new gyro though, Id recommend the Spartan quark. Great little gyro, simple setup and solid hold. (and half price in most places) Needs to be a digital tail servo.

My 250 flipped out on me but I can't be sure whether it was the fault of the gyro or the tail servo. Right up until that point it was fine, though.

I have one of these (GA250) on my 450, or did have til its last crash (which wasnt gyro related).

I've heard mixed things about these on smaller machines though, the tail was far too twitchy with it on a couple of 250s in videos I saw....

They are cheap, very cheap for what they do, but its probably worth trying to pick up a second hand spartan quark on here, for about £35.

I would sell you one of mine if I didnt like them so much

They're cheap as chips for a MEMS gyro and in my opinion, about the best of the cheap ones but do yourself a favour... buy a Spartan Quark, you won't regret it. The initial outlay might seem a lot for a little Blade SR but you can swap the gyro to your next heli and if you decide to go flybarless, you will never have a problem selling a Quark.

I'd go for the Assan GA250. Very good for the price. About the same as a Futaba 401. Very stable temperature wise. I wouldn't use it if you are going to throw it around, but it is an SR. A better Gyro is all very well if it survives. The GA250 is under £10. Don't get the non Futaba 401. I'm not sure good gyros are worth getting when flybarless starts at £50.

                Assan GA-250 gyro , any good ?

I had a ga250 about 2 years ago when they first came out. For the money it was really good but it had a tendency to lose program or freeze every once in a while and I only ever trusted it on my 450. Might have just been a dodgy unit. But for general sport flying with some inverted which was my limit it was solid.
Personally I would get a quark or a gp750. Prog and forget ;-) the difference between the Assan and a decent gyro is £30....... That's bugger all in this hobby
