  • Advice on removing servo connectors please.....

As title, I need to remove the connectors to braid and heatshrink them properly. Any advice on getting the connectors off and on greatly appreciated!

Small screwdriver, just lift the little tabs. Be careful not to lift them too much.

Thats it they just pull out then

Note the way they come out as they will need to go back the same for the little tab to drop back down and hold them in

Thanks, will give it a try...l really not looking forward to this. I'm assuming if I completely bugger it up, I can get spare connectors?

I use a small stanley/craft knife. Just carefully lift the tabs up one at a time, pull the connector out and move to the next one! Easy

Before I put the back in, I just gently push down on the connectors to make sure they 'click' nicely back in place when I put the pin back in! But not too hard though or you'll break the little plastic tab.

Unfortunately, not all connectors are standardised. I've found that the servo plugs on my Align servos are nothing like any aftermarket pins I have bought so far. So if I knacker it, it's a cut it off job and ruin my eyes by hand crimping new pins on! *sigh* Damn I need to get one of those fancy tools....

Yea. Its fine and you'll have no issues doing it. Just make sure the wires go back in the same way they came out

Dammit, first clip I tried has broke aggghhhh!

The next 5 have come off fine! If I order a servo extension, will the connectors still be different? I was going to put it back in and out a dab of glue on it,

Would this connector be right? Or can I buy the connectors somewhere?

Just took a picture of a standard Align connector next to an after market one. It's the pin/lug location difference that's the problem. The only way I could guarantee that it would fit right back on is if it was a proper Align connector. Otherwise you'll have to cut it off. You 'could' glue it in place, but if you need it off or the glue fails it might not end well Someone else might have another idea though or know where to get a connector that will go straight over the Align pins (please let me know! )

The picture isn't very good, but hopefully you can see the location difference between the Align on the right and the aftermarket ones. The Futaba connectors are the same as far as I've found.

Thanks for that, the tiny black restraint hasn't come off all the way,but wouldn't take much. May call raj at align Trex on Monday to see if he can get some align connectors. The heat shrink I ordered is too small anyway so will have to wait till Tuesday now. Mmmm, my plan of a maiden next weekend is in doubt.

I'e stopped braiding heli wiring. It might look nice but a waste of time..makes stuff stiff, harder to route. less easy to bundle through stuff, a pain when it comes to swapping out or re-wiring etc. I'd rather edge or grommet any sharp corners or pierced areas the wiring goes through or very rarely use a bit of spiral wrap.
The cheap HK braid is looser (more open weave) than the 'good stuff' and will go over a plug and snug down on the wiring and save all that hassle if you must braid..pulling and se-seating pins is just a new point of failure....
