    CSM400 drift

    I run a CSM400 with a Hitec 5925 fast digital servo. I dont believe this is a super servo so do not enable this support in the CSM400.

    The tail drifts on the heli, only slightly but enough to notice. I have re-set up the gyro more than once to try to remove this drift but have not managed to get rid of it completely. Does anyone have any tips on solving this mystery ? It has been suggested I buy a Futaba 401 instead but the additional outlay I could do without.

    I was running the CSM400 with a futaba 9001. Seemed to be fine but then had a problem which looked like the gyro. I have since put a gy240 in with the hitec 5925 servo and will test it this weekend. If I find anything conclusive will let you know.

      Nothing beats a GY401 and S9253 or S9254......solid as a rock..mine's crashed god knows how many times. Only recently upgraded to the S9254 and its never let me down yet. (Touch Wood, kiss of death this post).

        Hi deadcalm,

        I think unfortunately the CSM 400's do drift slightly, as do the 540's that I used to have on my first raptor 30. About the only thing you can do to minimise it is get the gain up as high as you can, those gyros like to have a gain ranging from 85% through to 100%.

        If you find that your gain is less than this and is already starting to wag, try moving the ball link on the servo arm in a hole, you will then be able to get the gain up higher.

        Incidentially it is definitely worth trying the gyro in super servo mode, as a super servo by definition is a fast digital servo. I had a futaba S9450 servo on mine which is a fast digital servo and the gyro was quite happy to run in super servo mode. It would be a shame to miss out on the benefit of the faster mode if you havent got to.

          Thanks for the info chaps I guess that I will have to upgrade to the 401 and 9253 or 4 (seem cheap on ebay or from cyberheli.com). I will leave this until I get the cash together for my Rappy 50 though.
          I wil try the super servo setting tomorrow if I get the time to go flying
          I have the gain turned up to just before the tail wags and the ball link is already 1 hole in from the outer most position so not keep to move it in further.

            Bought the GY401 with 9254 for the Rappy 50 so problem of drift solved for this heli Will be rebuilding the Nexus this evening for possible test flight tomorrow then I will either give it to my father or sell it... then again maybe I should keep it as a spare incase the worst happens to the Rappy.

            I will try increasing the gain as it is at about 65% I think (from memory) so was probably a little low. Might also try the super servo mode although not convinced this will be ok with the 5925...

                Hi Dave, no the 5925 or more correctly the HS-5925MG is the fast digital metal geared servo from Hitec. Good specs and low price were what attracted me at the time

                7.4Kg torque and 0.1s/60 degrees isnt too bad at 4.8v, is higher and faster at 6v although I have never run 6v myself.

                  Just picked up on the discussion.

                  I found the problem with my futrua SS wasn't the CSM400, but some dodgy gear teeth. Anyhow, I'm running the CSM560 on my R60 with the 5925 and also had a few problems with it, suspecting the gyro and then the servo. Eventually after re-siting the radio gear, I appear to have cured the problem. During this time, I spoke to CSM and they do regard the Hitec 5925MG as a super servo.

                    The 5925 as a super servo is good news, I will change the settings on the CSM400 once I have the Nexus back in one piece.

                    Checked the settings I was running the normal and HH modes in last night, had 40% for normal and 43% for HH which may be a little low. Especially when compared to the 80/85 I use on my Futaba 401.

                      Can't remember the starting point for the 400, but for the 560 it's 60%. Originally, I was down to 33%, but after I re-did the wiring, am running at about 54% in both normal and HH.
