  • Hs 625 Mg

I stripped the gears on the pitch servo on my Raptor when it met the ground on Suday.

What I did I don't know, but it went in quite slow so not too much damage.

I have a spare servo - Hitec HS625MG - and just want to know if it is suitable or not for use on pitch. Enough torque etc.

Any thoughts? - if no good, then recommend a decent, reliable servo for this job.

    Thanks all

      Hi David,
I think that servo should be fine on pitch - I've used lesser servos myself in the past - it seems to be better than a Futaba 3152 servo (spec-wise).

      Cheers,
      Rob

If I remember rightly, the HS525 is the high torque, and the 625 is the high speed? Or is it the other way round.

Just be aware that some folks don't advocate metal gear servos in (especially) nitro helis as coupled with vibration it can lead to accelerated wear.

I had a look at this spec page:

          I think it'll be fine

Edit: Can't link to a well known model centre in the south due to weird behaviour of forum... hint... susse(ks) model centre.
          Cheers,

whilst torque and speed look good and it will work. however its analogue rather than digital which means it wont follow the stick as well. big dead band will show up on the pitch as jumpness.

my experience with hitec metal gears isnt great either, they get sloppy pretty quick.

i would personally go for the futaba 3152

x25 is usually speed, x45 is usually torque

I bow to Ade's advice. Futaba it is?

Thanks for the comments - good to hear from you all again - it's been a busy, very wet summer, so I don't really know where the time has gone.

Of on hols for 2 weeks - so will get some stick time in when I get back.

                  Best of luck all

I have been more than happy with 3152 digitals - sensibly priced, great holding power, and very accurate servos. Can't go wrong for £21 each whatever they are. Inwoods are the cheapest I think. Probably a law of diminishing returns too - sure, go and buy £90 servos but they're not £70 better!

9252 and 9255 are worth the extra money once you start throwing them around properly just another step up in performance from analogue to digitial to digital and coreless motors. The mechanics of the servo tend to be better too reducing slop.

in this instance i would say that a 3152 is all that is needed
