  • Align 3G Tail Problems

Been trying to fix a problem with the tail on a 500 this evening. When spooling up, the tail violently shakes from side to side.

It is definitely the 3G as when I stuck the Vbar on it, there was no issue.

The gear is on the Gear channel and currently at 50%, when at 20% the tail was in Rate Mode.

    Anyone had/ this issue before?

You need to move the tail linkage in on servo as much as you can but still manage to get tail slider to reach end points also when you set the delay on 3g hold tail stick 3/4 approx left then press set button/save! otherwise delay sets back to zero.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

Cheers, will reset it all backup again and give it a try.

Do the gains look about right for a DX7?

Check your ESC settings - I had the same problem on my 3g 500. Some how the ESC had lost the settings I had programmed, and set all the values to 1. I must have somehow entered programming mode by mistake and not realised. Setting 4 is aircraft and if a value of 1 is Normal aircraft/glider. Resetting this to value 2 gives helicopter 1 (soft start). This cured the vibrations as you described for me. Hope you get it sorted

Cheers, the ESC has been changed too, so will have a look at that Was fine on the VBar though which is strange.

To bypass the 3G gyro is it just a case of taking out the connecters from the Rx and plugging a Quark in instead?

yes just take the gyro connectors out and plug your choice of gyro into the RX Paul. I was at about 38 for the gyro gain on the gear channel on a dx7 There similar to spartans ie have a strong gain So dont be frightened to drop it a fair bit (within reason). Hope that helps some more.

              Cheers Lee

I will probably stick my Spartanon it for him and he can use that. Will then hopefully be able to borrow someones sensor when im up the field to double check it is that.

Not sure how he stands regarding warranty though as he bought it secondhand :S

Will have a try with the gain when I am home, but I have already dropped that and it made no difference from memory.

Is is a big 'wag' that goes anywhere from 45degrees to 90degrees, and pretty violent.

Hmmm in that case my next port of call would be the ESC... you got the correct settings on that?

Reset the 500 ESC up today, from memory its

                        1 Beep
                        2 Beep
                        2 Beep
                        2 Beep
                        3 Beep

It has had a new ESC but has done 2 packs through it with no issue at all..

wow its been a while since i messed with an align 500 ESC so couldnt remember what those equate too but ill check their manual when i get 2 mins and see for you. As long as you arnt using the governor i usually have a low cut off voltage (i time the flight myself anyways), super soft start and no brake. Its all pretty straight forward so im guessing you probably have it setup correctly. If anything that could/would make you have a tail like that it would be you have governor mode set on it or the voltage cutoff set high. The rest is straight forward as i say. If you have that lot then maybe you are right in thinking its the gp780 in the 3g. Is it tail or belt drive? Where have you mounted the sensor? Could be static or something related?
