  • problems with setup of new Gy520 and S9254

    Hopefully someone can help.

I have just installed a new GY520 and S9254 on my raptor 50. I have set it up exactly as per the manual - ball link distances etc etc. Function wise, all is fine, i.e. the servo moves the correct way but the problem is it just doesnt respond quick enough!

I have it in HH mode and when hovering it seems to hold direction but put a slight bit of power on to lift the heli and the tail drifts - about 90degrees in about 2m height gain - with a gentle rate of rise. I have turned the gain right down and it is impossble to even get the tail to hold in a hover so I have got all that set up correctly. Even with the gain now set at 100%, I dont have any tail wag and still get the tail drift when inputting small amounts of torque to the rotor.

I have changed the servo response setting to fast and that has made no difference. I have checked the mechanical linkage and it is as free as a free thing.

I did have to adjust the end point setting in the gyro to get full tail rotor movement but not by anything significant so cant think that is causing the problem.

At the moment it is worse than my £15 copy 501 gyro with a cheap car servo in it!

Any help greatly appreciated. I am sure I have something wrong somewhere I just cant find it!

I had the same gyro and it was awesome, I would still think its a gain issue, I take it your Tx can't go over 100%? and that your gyro gain is connected to your gain output of your Rx?

Have you got it on the blue light for servo selection? Also if end points in the gyro are to much you need to move the ball closer or out. Mines at 14mm

Set the Servo as a digital one, not analogue?

Thanks for all your comments! I will adjust the servo linkage to see if I can get it to full movement without having to adjust the gyro end points.

I have a solution but I think it may be a fudge rather than the proper fix. I just moved the end points for the channel Aux 2 - which is the gyro gain channel I am using, to 150% each side rather than 100% and now with a gain setting of 80% it is rock solid. Previously the end points were at 100%

I have tried some fast spins, some rapid climb outs and it seems to be brilliant! I am very happy now with the gyro but less happy with the weather!

Its really too windy to fly and the rain has just arrived!

Going to pack it all away and go for a pint!

            Thanks again for the advice!
