  • My Gyro nightmare....

    Hi all,

Trying to save money I brought a GY401 and servo for my raptor v2 30 from us ebay but not only did I have to pay a 24.17 customs charge on it but I realize now that I read the advert wrong and even though the picture was for a 401 and a S9254 set the servo that I have received is a S9650 1/12th scale digital servo. I have had the heli for a month now I brought it with out a gyro and I was hoping to have a fly this weekend.

Does anyone know if I will be ok using this servo on my raptor or do I need the correct one?

    Thanks Nick

    Hi Nick
Yes it will work it has a higher torque than the 9254 but is slower 0.14 as oposed to 0.06 with the 9254 but if your learning or general flying you'll probably not notice it.

The servo is smaller I haven't had a chance to offer it up to the mounts so I don’t know if it will fit yet the other issue is that I have been told that I am not allowed to spend any more on it for a while. Will it work with a standard 3001 servo and will this affect the performance and will I notice as I am a novice?

          Hi Nick
In short yes anything will work but the question is how well? As a novice it'll probably get you out of trouble. If your mounting in the frame no it wont fit the 9650 that is. But if you have boom mounts it will. If you use a 3001 for now make sure the gyro is not switched to digital. Hope that helps.

            Hi mate

There's got to be a swap in this. Someone may have a 9254 that they may swap for your 9650. Anyone who is putting together a TREX for instance.

I personally wouldn't use the 9650 for a 30 sized heli, even if it will do it.

Why not go on BMFA and put an Ad on?

If you've got a 3001, then by all means use it for the time being. As a beginner, you won't know any different and it will work ok. Just make sure the gyro is set to 'standard' and not 'digital' servo mode.

For short term, I would stick an ad on this site offering a straight swap between your servo and a 9254. There's not a great deal difference in new price.

For the long term, aim to get a 9254 by hook or by crook at some time in the not too distant future.

                Thanks all,

I think that is the plan use the 3001 till I can swap the S9650 for a S9254

I learnt a long time ago taking shortcuts only ends up in disaster....

                  Hi

I used a 148 temporarily on a CSM HL200 gyro to establish that I had a servo problem with a horrible Align thing.

Worked okay and certainly did the trick so the 3001 should be fine.

                  Cheers

Hi Nick wouldnt say its a short cut mate as the servo and gyro make an excellent combo in thier own rite. Ok mainly in the micro market but
do work purfectly well. The swap idea i am allready trying in the for sale section. No joy as yet though lol.

Don't use a 3001 when you have a much better servo sitting not being used, you will notice the difference.

Nip over to Antics and pick up some ply and make a mount for it to slot in to the frame or better still pick up a boom mount.

                        .... that includes Align ones

                            Hi Nick
Good idea! You know it makes sence thats exactly what i intend to do.
They are a real good servo and higher torque than a 9254 so i see no
reason not to. Unless your a balls out 3d flyer you'll never be able tell
