  • Which servo?

So here's my dilemma, and being a Newbie I have no idea here!

I today purchased a Trex 550e FBL but upgraded from the Align DS 620 tail servo to a DS650 equivalent, the Savox SH-1290-MG. This has exactly the same performance spec as the 650, so I’m happy with that.

After making that upgrade though, I was persuaded that instead of the 3 x Align DS610 servos, I should go for 3x Savox SC-1257s instead because they are faster, and that’s important for FBL apparently... which I duly did! I am now wondering if that was the right decision as the 1257s have less torque compared to the 610 – 10kg versus 12kg .. but they are 0.01 sec faster.

The servos specs are per the below ...

The Savox 1258 is the same as the Align 610, so I have the option of going for that if I talk to them tomorrow morning first thing to switch the order. What should I do? 3x Savox 1258s i.e. exactly same as the stock align 610, or stick with the slightly faster Savox 1257s although their torque is less. I ultimately want to go scale, so not sure if the torque differences is of any significance on a helicopter of this size with the added weight of a scale fuselage.

    Thanks for the input.

Can't comment on your servo dilemma apart from saying my 550 runs perfectly on the standard Align servos. Just wanted to thank you for the great link to the servo database. I've not seen that site before

I'm sure they will be fine. From what i've heard Savox are pretty good.

Personally I would have probably gone with the 610's, only because they've never let me down in the past. Stick with what you know and all that

Scale flying puts far less strain on the servos than 3D so the torque difference shouldnt be a problem

        Maybe some perspective on this.

The DS610 are good enough to run a 90 size model. The 550 is a 30 size model. Much smaller and much lighter. I can't see for one minute it is going to trouble those 3 servos to push the blades around regardless of how hard you manage to fly the model.

It wasn't so very long ago that 90 size models were setup with 7Kg servos and it worked pretty well.

correct they are rebranded align servo, just different cases made by same factory. i have a 550e runs perfect on 610s, 620 same as savox eqvialiant.
if your using align 3g system it says in maual to use at 12kg or higher servos, but my friend is using 620 servo on TREX700 3g and that works fine.

            hope this helps
