  • CSM ICG 450 gyro..problems programming it using a DSX9

    Hi folks,
I have been having problems getting the ICG 540 to enter auto set-up mode using my DSX 9 and wondered if any of you who've had experiience with this gyro might be able to give me some pointers.
I have the gyro set on Aux 2 and i am able to adjust the gain values and see the result on the tail. However, the gyro is not behaving itself when in flight and i think it's because it hasn't gone through the auto setup routine to establish the tail mid position trims.
The instructions say to toggle the gain switch in the fisrt few seconds after switch on and the tail will twitch left to right to acknowledge entering auto set-up. I can't get this to happen.

Any help would be much appreciated and thanks in advance.

    Vic,
    hi had this problem also
heres how to enter set up.#
    ( from csm there selves)
ps i used a spectrum tx also but this worked for me
    Dear Jason,

Sorry you're having problems with this gyro. I'm presuming your using a Futaba Tx - when Futaba brought out their first HH gyro (about 2 years after ours!) they decided to make the modes the other way round to us, so don't worry about that!
To get into the setup you may need to put the ATVs to maximum the first time - the gyro may be 'off centre' because of use of Tx trims etc - remember to put them back to where you need them afterwards. If you're using 2.4Mhz equipment, you may want to turn on the Tx and Rx first, then power the gyro, as the 2.4MHz Rx can take a while to settle. If that still doesn't work, try a different channel for the gain/mode switch - theoretically there could be a clash of channels on modern Txs that the 540 can't cope with although we haven't actually come across anyone with a problem yet.

    Best regards,
    hope this helps

        Hi

Yes basically what CSM support said, it's important you have the gyro gains at or close the max in both directions otherwise it won't go in to set up.
You can then turn them back down again afterwards before you fly if needed.
If your using the JR gyro gain software in your TX then this can cause issue as JR split the channel up differently to every one else, their software runs the channel from one end to the other not from centre outwards so you might want to control it from the radio's ATV/Travel adjust, you would need to chose another aux channel or turn the gain software off to do this.

OK, problem now sorted but it took one hell of a roundabout route to do it.

I got in touch with CSM and they said pretty much the same as you that i had to set gain ATVs to 150%. However, the AUX 2 channel appears as - - - in the travel adjust menu and it is not possible to sellect it and change the values.......?
so, i plugged the gain lead into the GEAR channel and went to set the ATVs for it and could only adjust the + values because toggling the gear switch did not shift the adjuster to the - value, at least not until i then also toggled the AUX 2 (flap) switch at the same time and then it shifted over to allow the - value to be set........very odd!!!
Next i switched on the transmitter and reciever and toggled the GEAR switch........nothing.......ok, try again.......nothing.......Right, so i then toggled both the GEAR and AUX2 switches at the same time and YIPEEEEEEE, i got into the auto set-up routine.
Like i said, one hell of a roundabout way of getting there but the main thing is i got there in the end

Many thanks for your help chaps, much appreciated!!
