  • CSM 720 mounting

How do you guys mount the 720?
Fitted one to a 90 soon to give it a go but the standard way of mounting seems really sloppy?
    Cheers
    James

The my 700 I use 1 futaba pad and put a strap loosely over it. Always worked fine like that.

On the N5, I use the metal plate (provided) and one of Fast Lad's Futaba equivalent replacement pads.

Seems to work for me, although I probably don't spank my heli quite as much as you

Oh and using a lighly velco'd strap

have been using one double sided very thin tape to mount gyro to steel plate then a piece of ripmax mounting tape (comes in a strip and you cut it off) I found the supplied pads too soft. I also where possible put a strap over the gyro just in case

As has been said the supplied pads are too soft I had real tail issues until I changed to thin tape, metal plate, futaba gyro pad. After that the tail was rock solid. With the standard set up you could see the tail moving when the heli was ticking over on the table.

Thanks everyone, will try just 1 futaba pad first and see how it goes

Another vote here for just one Futaba pad. Worked fine on my Knight 3D and my G5

Another school of thought would be that Colin Mill does actually know what he's on about with his own gyros, and the supplied pads are in fact perfect for his gyros.

Agreed, CSM pads are a lot softer than just about all the competition offerings, but that doesn't make them wrong. Maybe the CSM sensor and/or software is just more sensitive than some of the others, and the gyros need the more 'softer' mounting approach to filter out tiny vibes from the airframe.

                    Just playing Devil's Advocate.

I don't think anyone is slating Colin the guy really knows his stuff. On my electric birds they worked great, but on the nitro helis I and lots of other people have had issues that were sorted by changing the pads.

Its probably just down to resonant frequencies / mounting location on some nitro helis. You may have found using two plates or a strap would do the same thing. In my experience all 3 of my K3D had the gyro mounted at the front all had the same issue and the pad change fixed it. Actually thats not quite true as the 3rd one I didn't bother using the CSM pads at all just went straight to the futaba one.

Thin double sided, metal plate, then two thicknesses of ripmax self adhesive foam.

With the CSM squashy pads you can see the tail wobble on hard stops.
