Karbonite Composite or Metal Gears for Flybarless?

As the title say's which will be the better option for Flybarless Heli's?

Metal gears being stronger, are they likely to do more damage in the event of a crash.

Karbonite gears, are they strong enough to cope with the high loads and stress of flybarless heli's, also in a crash gears would simply strip doing less damage to other components of servo or the heli?

I fly a 500, sport flying with some light 3D and a fair amount of crashing!

Speaking as someone VERY experienced at crashing, ,I found that the gears on my swash servos were usually casualties, one or two per crash.

I've upgraded to metal gears, now, in the hope that any subsequent crash will take out the horns rather than the gears. Mind you, having just fitted a beastX, I'm hoping not to crash so much.

I've crashed three times with my 450 FBL, each time claimed one or two sets of DS410MG gears. It's getting expensive, and the metal gears don't seem to help at all. Just make the crashing more expensive.

That said - I can never actually see the damage on them, .. I'm hoping I've not been an idiot and simply reseating them all was all that was needed.

Anyway - I'm very interested to know if 5065MGs stand up better, and if a karbonite gear train would work ok in them.

i would go for carbionite gears, i have always used meat gears till now, but on FBL its a whole different league. i have changed hs65mg once in 6 months on FB, on FBL 10 time already seeing this i went for align 410m's the are feather delicates and an utter waste of money on FBL, strip like mad. so i now have HS5065mg's my recent crash no it didnt brake the servo arm in broke the whole servo in two with gears thrown out every were. plus bent link all over in head, bent blade grips .

so i got mad and replaced all gears with hs65 carbon one and coming back with yet another crash (can't blame me i hate the sim and i am getting my head round flying inverted circuits) 2 cyclic servo gears are gone but all linkage and head is straight. and yes the plastic fell as smooth and strong.

i have align 510 on my atom 550 and i have flown it alot if they can take the load of 550 head i think they will be swell on a 500 plus the gears only a fiver.

i would say if you got an expensive FBL head on your bird stick to plastic or see big repair bills. as Sacko put it they will do some damage but my experience shows plastic doing a lot less.

my recent crash i am going head firt inverted into the ground so is likt the most stressful crash on servos but i am liking carbons...

Worth the venture I think - 5065s and 56HB gear sets in my shopping basket waiting for the next crunch.

Have to agree with what has been said on here. When I was flybarred I hardly ever broke a gear. On flybarless, it is almost every crash even with metal gears. I have also managed to smash a few gear cases in the process. Few of my servos also have a mixture of metal and carbonate now...usually try to keep the large gear as metal.

If you decide to use the 5065.. ensure that the servo gear train is silky smooth after a crash, as if it isn't it can tend to burn the servos out.
