I dont need to use it with a 610 on a 401 do i,im pretty sure i dont but i got to ask as its not my model im setting up

Nope, 610s handle 6v just fine. Not 100% on the 401, but I'd guess it would be fine.

On the gy611 you can run the gyro at 6 volts but not the recomanded tail servo.
should be ok
